Fans Outraged At Star Wars May The 4th 'Letdown'

Various Star Wars fans across the web feel cheated on by their being worked up for a bit May The Fourth announcement, only for it to be details on the Blu-Ray release of the complete saga. More after the jump!

In honor of the international 'Star Wars Day' on May 4th, a promise of a big announcement was being hyped, even leading to a website counting it down by the second. Fans all over the globe were anticipating what it was, but were ultimately letdown when the website crashed immediately after the countdown ended, and even more so when it turned out to be none other than the details on the Blu-Ray version of the complete saga being released in one set in September. From Online Social Media:

Die hard Star Wars fans were furious about the site crashing and were even more so when they found out about what the big surprise was. It turns out that the revelation was that all 6 movies were being brought out on Blu-ray. The collection will go on sale internationally on 12th September and in North America on 16th September.

Disappointed fans let their anger be known on Twitter, with one user writing “That was announced in January. @StarWars you have failed me.” The let down clearly was unforgivable as another livid fan tweeted “Again, us loyal fans have been cheated with another release of digitally “enhanced” nonsense. At least we can look forward to the return of Star Wars in 3D to our cinemas, lets hope its not the cheap useless version.

What do y'all think about the announcement? Were you expecting and/or hoping for something more revealing (such as the live action TV series that we haven't heard about in a while or maybe even a seventh film)? Anyways, Star Wars: The Complete Saga hits Blu-Ray September 16th, later this year!

Seriously, people? You were honestly expecting something else? Right there in BIG BOLD letters on the website it said "The Complete Saga" (which was announced as the name of the box set months ago) along with the Blu Ray symbol. If anyone was expecting some other kind of announcement, they are morons. As for the website crashing, so what? It happens, and it just goes to show that Star Wars endures, and continues to be the most popular movie saga of all time. So stop trying to find things to complain about, everything was fine and everyone will be lining up around the block to buy the Blu Ray release! Star Wars is forever!

I figured it wouldn't be anything news-shattering. That's George Lucas for ya!

@OptimusPrime114 haha, I love the prequels too. ROTS is probably my fav of the whole saga, whole AOTC is my least favorite.

I liked V best, it's the only one, without George(only his money).

Yeaa it was pretty ridiculous to assume anything more than the Blu-Ray, considering the logo was RIGHT there on the countdown page.

Still, didn't keep me from hoping for Star Wars Battlefront III.

No, it is not ridiculous to think that "All answers will be reviled" like the post card i got in the mail said. There are lots of things they could have announced, not something they announced a long time ago. this is just like lucas saying he was going to make a big announcement during the jon stweret interview at CV and all it was was the blu ray announcement.

Seriously Lucas needs to let Star Wars go...I'm a huge star wars fan, but I will not be forking out top dollar to watch Star Wars in 3D...I'll spend my money on something I haven't seen a numerous amount of times.

Lucas has done a lot over the years to make STAR WARS a bitter sweet affair for me. I have exhausted myself to the point of not even caring any more. It's pretty liberating actually. I don't expect George to make any good decisions regarding STAR WARS, I'm done buying the movies repeatedly and I won't be holding my breathe for yet another series limited to the tired Clone War era.

[frick] you!

Start making movies (I don't care if they're [frick]ing CGI!!!) of the Expanded Universe stuff from the novels, and MAYBE I'll care about Star Wars on the big screen again. Maybe.

Hmm let's see... what would be awesome on the big screen:
The Dark Empire saga
The Thrawn Trilogy
THE NEW JEDI-FREAKING ORDER! (Jedi and Galaxy vs Yuu'zhan Vong. I'd die a happy Star Wars fan to see this saga on the big screen!)
Legacy of the Force would be pretty bad-ass too. History repeats itself!
