"By Grabthar's Hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged."
Another attempt to get a Galaxy Quest TV series off the ground and into the cosmos is officially underway, this time for the Paramount+ streaming service.
Multiple trades are reporting that Paramount+ and Paramount Television Studios are in the very early stages of adapting the 1999 sci-fi comedy for the small screen. As things stand, the only member of the original creative team attached is Mark Johnson, who produced the movie and will serve as an executive producer on the series.
The search is currently underway for a writer to pair with Johnson, but it sounds like that's about as far as things have gone.
The movie stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni as a bunch of actors from a cancelled Star Trek-like TV series who are mistaken for real space-heroes by a group of aliens who need their help to defeat a tyrannical foe.
Amazon was developing a sequel show that would have reunited the cast back in 2015, but plans fell by the wayside after Rickman's death.
It's not clear if this show would introduce an entirely new crew or recast the original characters, but we'll be sure to keep you updated.
