When the trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim was released last month, many fans noticed that the voice of Portal character GLaDOS (voiced by Ellen McLain) was used. Speaking with Toronto Sun, the director (who's currently promoting the upcoming horror film Mama, which he's producing) reveals that it was his intention to use GLaDOS' voice, as he's a big fan of the video game series. "I wanted very much to have her, because I’m a big Portal fan. But just as a wink. She’s not cake-obsessed. She’s not out to destroy humanity." Del Toro also looks back on approaching Portal creators Valve for permission to use GLaDOS' voice, despite no plans to have an actual crossover between the two. "I said, ‘Look, there’s no A.I. I’d rather have than GlaDOS,’" he stated. Despite this, the voice used in the actual movie will be slightly filtered, and that the trailer's use wasn't filtered. "The filter we’re using is slightly less GLaDOS. Slightly. The one in the trailer I wanted to be full-on GlaDOS."

Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman. The film is set to hit theaters July 12th, 2013.

This would be an awesome way to go for a rebooted Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers movie.

Del Toro rocks. And I'm, feeling kinda proud I realized it was GlaDOS voice in that trailer... it was pretty much the only comment I made when I saw it lol

If this movie is a success will a live action Mobile Suit Gundam film be around the corner?

Aw... I would have preferred they keep the full-on GLADOS voice in the actual film. I had no problem with the idea that there was a less homicidal version out there.
