A while back news hit that a shortlist of actresses were up for the female lead in Tom Cruise's new sci-fi flick Horizons. They were Jessica Chastain, Olga Kurylenko, Brit Marling, Noomi Rapace and Olivia Wilde. Well it seems as if Chastaine has won out as Variety report the following..
After a long search, Joseph Kosinski has settled on Jessica Chastain for one of the two female leads in Universal's untitiled sci-fier starring Tom Cruise.
They say untitled, but last we heard the movie would be called
Horizons after the original title,
Oblivion was scrapped. The story is based on the comic from Radical Publishing, itself written by Kosinski, and focuses on Jack(Cruise), a man who lives in the clouds above Earth and heads to its surface to repair drones that essentially keep the planet safe from an alien race that has all but wiped out humanity. Chastain looks set to become a big time player in Hollywood, landing plaudits for her performances in
Tree Of Life, The Debt and
Take Shelter with Michael Shannon.
Variety also report that the other female role could well be filled by one of the other ladies that were in contention for the one Chastain landed. Production is expected to start this winter with Universal eyeing a July 19 2013 release date.
