Deadline is reporting that New Line Cinema is currently in talks with Brad Peyton (San Andreas) to direct their upcoming live-action film adaptation of the popular '80s arcade game Rampage, which already has Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Furious 7) signed on to star.
If all goes according to plan, Rampage would be the third time Johnson and Peyton have worked together following 2012's Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and the disaster film San Andreas, which managed to gross over $460M worldwide earlier this year.
The plot of the film is being kept under wraps, but Deadline adds that the film adaptation is said to be fairly consistent with the Midway game as three monsters - George (a King Kong-like gorilla), Lizzie (a Godzilla-like dinosaur/lizard), and Ralph (a giant werewolf) - wreak havoc/rampage through several major U.S. cities. The script is currently being penned by Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) and production on the film is expected to kick off next summer after Johnson finishes shooting Universal's Fast & Furious 8.
