Monarch has been a recurring presence in the MonsterVerse movies, and in what appears to be a bid to save the world from a rampaging Godzilla, they'll kidnap Kong from Skull Island in Godzilla vs. Kong in order to pit the Titans against each other. How do they transport the giant ape?
Well, thanks to a newly released TV spot, we finally know...it's a giant net, folks!
Yes, this clearly isn't a movie to take too seriously, but it looks like a good time, and there are some great, action-packed new shots here of the war between the two behemoths. Kong using that giant "axe" to deflect Godzilla's Atomic Breath is undeniably badass, and even if Godzilla vs. Kong is basically an extended fight sequence, it feels like we'll have a lot of fun with this one.
Interestingly, the crossover event's runtime has also been revealed. While there had been rumblings it might clock in at a whopping three hours, we now know it'll be just 1 hour and 53 minutes.
Here's a synopsis teasing what we can expect:
Legends collide in Godzilla vs. Kong as these mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond. But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe. The epic clash between the two titans—instigated by unseen forces—is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.
The cast of Godzilla vs. Kong includes Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir. It's set to be released on March 31st in the U.S., though it's simply "Coming Soon" in countries where theaters remain closed (it has been dated for March 26th in a handful of locations).
