Barring any strike-related delays, 2024 will see the release of Legendary's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. However, Toho also has its own movie on the way featuring the King of the Monsters.
Godzilla Minus One is the 37th film in the Godzilla franchise, Toho's 33rd Godzilla film, and the fifth film in the franchise's "Reiwa" era. Written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, it's scheduled to be released in Japan on November 3 and will be unleashed in North America just shy of a month later on December 1.
Thanks to SFFGazette.com, we have some roar-some (sorry) new promo art which puts the spotlight on this awesome kaiju design, and we can't help but feel this bad boy would absolutely lay waste to Legendary's Godzilla!
It's important to note that this Godzilla movie is completely separate from what Legendary is doing, so don't bank on any crossovers either in this story or future instalments.
Still, there's plenty for kaiju fans to look forward to in the years ahead. As well as Godzilla Minus One and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, there's also an Apple TV+ series in the works titled Godzilla and the Titans.
Set in the MonsterVerse, the first two episodes of the spin-off will be directed by WandaVision and Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman, who also serves as an executive producer. Wyatt Russell, Kurt Russell, and Kiersey Clemons are among the main cast members but we don't currently know when it will premiere.
"Set in a post-war Japan," reads an official description for this movie, "Godzilla Minus One will once again show us a Godzilla that is a terrifying and overwhelming force. The concept is that Japan, which had already been devastated by the war, faces a new threat with Godzilla, bringing the country into the 'minus.'"
