Kate Beckinsale Wins Damages over Barbarella Rumors

Underworld hottie Kate Beckinsale won about $32,000 in compensation and an apology from a U.K. tabloid that finally admitted to phony claims that she was fired from a remake of the Jana Fonda movie “Barbarella”.

Kate Beckinsale wanted nothing but the truth and now she finally got it.

She won approximately $32,000 in damages and an apology from a U.K. tabloid over what it admitted were false claims that she was fired from a remake of the 1968 Jane Fonda hit Barbarella.

Per the Guardian, as part of a settlement with Beckinsale in London's High Court, the Daily Express acknowledged that it fabricated the story and caused the 35-year-old actress considerable embarrassment by suggesting she was "facing heartbreak" after losing out on the iconic part to fellow thespian Rose McGowan and that her career "was in decline."

The report, published on the paper's website, also stated that the new version of Roger Vadim's campy sci-fi flick was "expected to be a big commercial hit, so it will be a real blow to Kate."

In actuality, Beckinsale's camp claimed in court papers that she was never in talks for the Barbarella role and had no intention of being involved in the project, so any article to the contrary was all a lie.

"This article wrongly gave the impression that the claimant's career is in decline, which would undoubtedly have a knock-on effect on those who would be casting film roles, as well as the industry as a whole," her lawyer, Graham Atkins, told the court.

Beckinsale did not attend today's settlement hearing. But the tabloid's parent company, Express Newspapers, not only agreed to pony up the mea culpa and damages but also pay all legal fees as well.

The Pearl Harbor pinup returns to the big screen this fall in the crime thriller Whiteout, after which she'll team up with Robert De Niro in the comedy drama Everybody's Fine.

Around my neck of the woods, all we got to know was Mr. Bean and Faulty Towers. That's about it. Oh, the Black Adder too.

I'm actually a huge fan of movies such as 4 Weddings and a Funeral and Love Actually. England is a must visit in my lifetime!!! If i was a millionaire, i'd actually move there and have tea and crumpets with you every afternoon :P

You wouldn't like Canada. We're just friendly. Our whether sucks unless you like -40 winters and +40 summers. I'd love to live in a more stable whether like England has. But everytime i say that, people always tell me it's full of assholes and the price of living is impossible. That true at all???

Okay, yes there are assholes everywhere in the world but some nations are just known for them. England always seems to come up in the top 3 there. I was just hoping it was missinformation LOL :P

I know nothing what so ever about Wales. I thought it actually was in England... see??? And i think i've never heard welsh in my life. I'd love to though. I wonder what that sounds like. And i know nothing of those places you mentionned you all lived in like... Worthington and Hemsworthshire. It's funny cause over here in Canada, one of the largest countries in the world, we fight over two languages. When in your neck of the woods theres like what... 20??? LOL :P How the [frick] can you even communicate?!?!?!?!

Teabag- Goddamn dude, hope you feel better. On the plus side, you DID discover the internet :))

Shaman: out of all of the UK - you're right England is full of assholes, wales scotland and ireland arent though (only messing with you teabag, lol!) Wales is the bit sticking out of the left, lol! its sorta spit into four parts though-the north is the snowy mountains, the west is really the seaside sorta places and the south (where i live) is more industrial historically anyway. as for the east, thats where that bloody England is, lol. wales is like 80% countryside though. and im not going to argue with teabag, Welsh does indeed sound like gibberish especially when said fast! heres a llittle welsh for you though-the only thing i can remember from school-'Nos da' which means goodnight! like i said though it not a first language and is really only used a lot up in the northen parts of wales.

Superdog- Us Canadians curl... yeah :(

joshw24- Damn, seems so complicated for such a small place!!! I'd love to see it all but i'd be bankrupt after that LOL :P

teabag- I saw Titanic ONCE... i hated the [frick] out of it. Couldn't stand it AT ALL!!! All three hours and a half of it!!! The second time i saw it it was on tape. I just put the second one in and fast forwarded to Naked Kate. Didn't even bother to finish it after i was done. So i don't seem to recall Southampton.

TheAnswer- A poll would be kinda cool but... i guess the US would win it.
