In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented - but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a "looper" - a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) - is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good... until the day the mob decides to "close the loop," sending back Joe's future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film was written and directed by Rian Johnson ("Brick") and also stars Emily Blunt ("Salmon Fishing in the Yemen"), Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels.

I love VFX Breakdown videos, regardless of the movie itself, but this time it's coming from my most favorite movie of 2012. Thank you, nail.

I just watched this a month or so ago, and I fell in love with it. I regret not seeing it in theaters, definitely recommend it.

Looper was incredible, only surpassed last year in greatness by django unchained and skyfall.

nailbiter111: Unless we're talking about giant robots, I've always believed that CGI is indeed meant to enhance rather than to craft from scratch; so yeah, I'm with you on that. Enhancement environments through CGI has been proven quite effective in numerous movies, while relying completely on CGI, especially to bring major characters to life, is one of the reasons for, say, the likes of Green Lantern failed. Sure, it may not always be the case, but it's best to provide an actual basis in the first place.

How has nobody commented on the extended Shanghai bit yet?

I thought it was fantastic. I think if this is the version they used in the film here, I'd have been a little more involved in Bruce Willis' arc.

good film , you can tell they were inspired by some classic science fiction , Especially with the "rain maker" character

Too bad LOOPER was not nominated for a best picture OSCAR. There were 9 films nominated. Making LOOPER the 10th would have made my day. Oh, well. Nevertheless, I feel will be discovered by many viewers over the next few years and perhaps become a Blade Runner-esque cult film. That would be nice.

I understand the love for this film. But honestly, whining about the snubs doesn't mean a damn thing if you don't tell which film you would un-nominate from the 9 nominees.

It's not a list of the "good films" of the year, it's a list of the "nine best" (according to the Academy).
