Matt Damon On Replacing Eminem As The Lead In ELYSIUM

That's right, Matt Damon replaced Eminem as the lead in Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, which opens in US theaters August 09th. Damon likens the casting process to asking your girlfriend about the guys she dated before you, it's just something you don't want to know.

Rapper Eminem (and the lead vocalist of a South African band) was Neill Blomkamp's first choice to play the lead role of Max in his sci-fi feature film, Elysium. This was previously disclosed by Blomkamp himself, but how did actor Matt Damon react to the news. Said Damon, "I don't even think [Eminem] was my competition. I think Neill went to him, so there was no competition. He got the offer, but that's probably 75 percent of the things that I do — somebody else got the offer before — that's kind of the nature of the business. I think you end up getting the part you're supposed to get. The right actor gets the part, ultimately. In terms of me, I never asked Neill. I just found out about Eminem because I read it somewhere. It's not like they bring us all in for the cattle call: 'Goddamn it, Clooney's here! I knew it." Damon goes on to likening the process to asking your girlfriend about the guys she dated before you, it's just something you don't want to know.

Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds."

Eminem didn't want to do it because Em wanted it in Detroit.

Of course looking at the city in the film, Detroit would be the perfect place for the Earth city to shoot.

Never seen Eminem act, but if Blomkamp came to him, he must have some kind of talent for it.

EMINEM is a joke. Hopefully he won't try "acting" anymore.

Obviously I'm not a fan of his "rapping". Don't like rap,so not going to comment on his ability there.

I watch film & television,I can tell who has acting talent..Matt Damon does,Eminem DOES NOT.

Watch 8 Mile. Sure Em mostly plays himself but he's still good in it. Better than Shaq in films.

If after 8 mile, Eminem focused on acting, he would've been the next Jamie Foxx. The guy can rap, act, and he is VERY funny.

@LEVI

lol 50 cent should drop acting. I dont know how he gets roles with actors like Pacino, De Niro or Stratham but he ruins those films every time.

It's hilarious that some think Slim Shitty can act.

Just stop for a sec and think, really use your brain..would you really want Eminem to star in this movie or Matt Damon..?

Answer is obvious and someone smart made it happen,Eminem didn't turn down the role.
The producers said,HELL NO.. Eminem won't be in this film!

I wish 50 would quit acting and actually finish his damn album.

50 ain't, Em or Ye or Jay who can put out an album and it will sell.

Now I don't care if it sells but the dude is losing it. He really hasn't had a great album since GRODT

You're a dumbass first off. Em met with Neil but it don't go down because Em wanted some of the filming in Detroit and Neil didn't want to film in Detroit. So he went with Matt.

Either way I would have loved to see Em in a film. I think he could have been great for this. I've seen Matt Damon act enough.

Kinda surprising, but given the premise of the protagonist coming from an oppressed group, I can see how Blomkamp would want Eminem after his performance as a struggling guy from the slums in 8 Mile.

This film needs to be sold as 90% in the space station (clean and rich) and 10% on Earth (dystopian future).

I am sooooooooooooooo tired of dystopian future films.....
