Thanks to widespread critical acclaim and a strong reception from audiences worldwide, Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One has been doing pretty solid business all week. The film has earned just under $72 million domestically in seven days and while it's not expected to retain its crown atop the box office this weekend, due to the release of Paramount's critically acclaimed horror feature A Quiet Place, the race should be a close one as RPO is currently projected to take in a number in the mid-to-low twenties. Word-of-mouth should also help carry the film in the coming weeks to the $150 million range before the end of the month.

International numbers have been even better, especially in China where its surpassed $110 million in just a week. It's now Hollywood's highest-grossing film in China this year, topping Marvel's Black Panther, which finished its run there with approximately $105 million. Worldwide box office have yet-to-be-updated, but the film should pass $300 million globally, possibly $350 million, at some point this weekend, if it hasn't already.

UPDATE: The actuals have arrived and Ready Player One has officially crossed $300 million worldwide. Its domestic cume stands at $71.9 million and its international haul is currently $228 million (including an outstanding $143 million from China).

Ahead of its debut in Japan on April 20th, Warner Bros. has released two more Easter Egg-filled posters. Check them out below:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Ready Player One features:
Director: Steven Spielberg
Tye Sheridan as Wade Owen Watts/Parzival

This is one Spielberg film I am excited to see. I haven't gotten thrilled over most of his latest dramas or such, as good as they are, but this I'm gonna regret not seeing in theaters.

Strange that Deathstroke appears on both posters when his role in the film was a blink and you'll miss it cameo. Not complaining, always nice to see Slade getting some publicity.
