REBEL MOON Will Allow Zack Snyder To Fully Unleash His Imagination According To The Movie's Co-Writer

Warner Bros. put a swift end to Zack Snyder's ambitious vision for the DCEU after hiring Joss Whedon to reshoot Justice League, but it sounds like Netflix has done nothing to hold him back with Rebel Moon.

We don't anticipate ever seeing Justice League director Zack Snyder return to the DCEU, but that doesn't mean he's leaving blockbusters behind. After delivering a hit for Netflix with Army of the Dead, he's now developing the two-part sci-fi epic Rebel Moon for the streaming platform.

We've had a few glimpses at the movie in recent months, but expect a trailer to potentially debut during Snyder's upcoming "Full Circle" event (which is expected to see him bid a final farewell to DCEU so he can focus on this new franchise).

During a recent interview with Collider (via SFFGazette.com), Rebel Moon co-writer Shay Hatten shared a big update on where things stand with the project.

"It's in the can. It's in post-production right now. Zack [Snyder] is editing away, and I've seen bits and pieces of it. I've seen scenes here and there and a cut of the trailer," he teases. "I haven't seen the full movie myself yet, but I'm very, very excited about it."

"I really feel so lucky to get to work with Zack. I tell him this all the time, but 300 was one of the first R-rated movies that I convinced my parents to take me to see in theaters, which I think he hates me saying because it makes me seem super young," Hatten added. "But nevertheless, he's been really an inspiration to me for a long time."

"And I think with Rebel Moon, people will just see that it's him really getting to unleash his visual imagination to the fullest extent. And I think people will really dig it."

Warner Bros. had an issue with Snyder "[unleashing] his visual imagination," so we're sure these comments will be welcomed by many of you. It definitely sounds like we're going to see the director deliver a movie in the way he wants, and this comes after we recently learned of plans for R-Rated extended cuts of both Rebel Moon movies to be released down the line.

In Rebel Moon, when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past named Kora to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.

The movie is set to be released on Netflix on December 22, 2023.

I'm sorry, but every original idea this guy has come up with, has failed. He's better at 1:1 adapting someone else's lol. If you know you know

Looking forward to seeing Rebel Moon. I love me some sci-fi, and Zack makes entertaining flicks. At the very least I expect it to be visually pleasing, with some sweet action. I don't expect to be blown away by the plot, but I like the concept.

It would kinda worry me, but the fact that there is a co-writer has me hoping Snyder will be reeled in a bit. Unless the co-writer is a yes-man..

@bkmeijer1 - the co-writer is practically stroking him off with his comments about 300 and being a fan…

@Dotanuki - yeah, hence the reason I brought up him being a yes-man

I’ve seen almost all of Snyder’s movies. The only one I didn’t really enjoy was the one where it felt like Snyder unleashed his visual imagination to the fullest extent (see: wet dream), and that was Sucker Punch.

The last time I fully unleashed my imagination, they told me Armageddon was nearly unleashed, but that's okay. I had already moved on to a new project.
