Earlier today, Walt Disney Studios rearranged their entire theatrical release calendar, and among the moves impacted was 20th Century Studios' Free Guy, which was pushed back from July to December 11, 2020.

Following the announcement, star Ryan Reynolds was quick to voice his support for the decision and to give fans a little something to look forward to. He also shared the first official clip from his upcoming sci-fi action comedy, which showcases his character enjoying breakfast while watching an interesting news report. The clip is unfinished, but it does offer a bit of the humor we can expect when the film rolls out this holiday season.

In case you missed it, Disney also moved the following:

  • Bob's Burgers (April 9, 2021)
  • Mulan (July 24, 2020)
  • Jungle Cruise (July 30, 2021)
  • The French Dispatch (October 16, 2020)
  • Marvel's Black Widow (November 6, 2020)
  • Marvel's The Eternals (February 12, 2021)
  • Marvel's Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (May 7, 2021)
  • Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (November 5, 2021)
  • Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder (February 18, 2022)
  • Untitled Marvel Studios Film (Blade?) - REMOVED FROM CALENDAR
  • Indiana Jones 5 (July 29, 2022)
  • Marvel's Captain Marvel 2 (July 8, 2022)

In addition to Reynolds, the cast will feature Golden Globe-nominee and Primetime Emmy-winner Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Mulan), Camille Kostek (I Feel Pretty) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

In Twentieth Century Fox’s epic adventure-comedy “Free Guy,” a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.

Free Guy hits theaters December 11

This movie looks like a worse version of Truman Show mixed with Ready Player One

Haven’t liked anything he’s done since the first DP

@BlackBeltJones - It's weird. He showed a lot of promise in Buried, but he's just been playing himself since DP came out. Guess he wants to be more like The Rock, where he's a brand instead of an actor.

@BlackBeltJones - I mildly enjoyed Voices, but overall Reynolds is like an expensive poor man's Nic Cage. Doesn't say no to any script, but can't quite bring the same level of crazy that Cage does.

@Reeds2Much - yessir at least Cage has a sort of odd distinctiveness to him. It’s gonna be crazy but a different type of crazy every time.

Indy 5 for July... 2022???

Disney better hope Ford will still be alive by then.

@KWilly - A fifth Indiana Jones film feels so superfluous, especially if even Spielberg doesn't want to do it

I'll watch it. Not in a theater, and not because I think it's good but that it looks just bad enough to be entertaining.

Reynolds has pretty much fallen back into cruise control mode.
