SDCC '23: Sci-Fi Epic PROJECT K Set To Become First Indian Film Ever To Host Hall H Presentation

Marvel Studios and DC Studios may be skipping Hall H this year, but it looks like some of that void will be filled by the Indian film Project K, and they're bringing some major international A-listers.

Due to the ongoing WGA strike, both Marvel Studios and DC Studios will be skipping San Diego Comic-Con next week, but that doesn't necessarily mean the weekend will be entirely uneventful as, for the first time ever, one of the biggest Indian films of 2024 is set to launch its official trailer during the annual event.

Variety has confirmed that Project K, an upcoming sci-fi epic directed by Nag Ashwin (Mahanati), will reveal its full title, official release date, and first footage on Thursday, July 20 during their Hall H presentation, "This is Project K: First Glimpse of India’s Mytho-Sci-fi Epic," with stars Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone in attendance.

The trio will also perform one of the film's songs on the biggest SDCC stage imaginable, so Hall H attendees are in for an absolute show.

We are thrilled to present ‘Project K”s debut at San Diego Comic-Con. India’s storytelling tradition has ancient roots, with its epics serving as the origins for many civilizations worldwide. A world as big as this needs a platform as big to introduce it to the people. Comic-Con felt like the perfect place, where the honesty and enthusiasm needed for ‘Project K’ will be found.” said Ashwin in a statement to the trade earlier this week.

Amitabh Bachchan and Disha Patani will also star in the film, but are not expected to be in attendance.

Project K was tentatively scheduled to hit theaters on May 9, 2024; but it looks like a new date will be announced on Thursday.

From the heartland of India emerges a unique tale that intertwines ancient mythology with cutting-edge science fiction, all within the captivating Spice Punk aesthetic. Welcome to Project K, the inaugural chapter of India's most ambitious cinematic universe yet. Three of India's biggest superstars, Kamal Hassan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone, along with director Nag Ashwin, unveil a glimpse into the future. Experience the convergence of global cinema's superheroes as Project K marks the first time India takes the stage at Comic-Con.

Just yesterday I was reading an article about how Hollywood might be on its way out as the dominant force in movie industry in the west, and the chinese and indian industries will start becoming more prominent.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Korean cinema has been putting out better movies than Hollywood the last 5-10 years too. Honestly, the most versatile force in the industry next to India.

Ok, this sounds interesting, I'll defiantly check this out. I love their other superhero type movie Brahmastra that came out last year or so and would love more!

Love to see Indian film productions getting their due in the last few years. I hope this leads to some kind of serious preservation efforts for older films. There are so many classics (and cult classics) that are essentially lost to time.

Prabhas doesn't have that pull anymore. Amitabh Bachchan is in everything nowadays. Have to check out teaser/trailer but am slightly skeptical about this project.
