During a coversation with TrekMovie.com, co-screenwriter of the Star Trek sequel let one spoiler slip past his lips. He informed the site that Bruce Greenwood's character, Captain Christopher Pike has been written into the script. Now, one of the interesting things is that Greenwood didn't not have an option in his contract for the sequel and it would require the actor signing back on to make it work. According to TrekMovie.com the actor has previously said in the past few years that he would be open to returning.

It's safe to assume that Bruce Greenwood will sign on for the sequel, but instead of being Captain, he'll be an Admirl. Which is the rank he was given at the conclusion of JJ Abrams first Star Trek.

Commenting here at TrekMovie.com yesterday, Star Trek sequel co-writer/producer Roberto Orci let a little sequel tidbit out of the bag with this comment:

Bob Orci: Spoiler alert! We wrote a part for Greenwood. Let us hope he says “Yes!” - TrekMovie.com

I wish actors would just own roles instead of them always rebooting and recasting. It would be stupid if they replaced Pike. One of the great things about Star Trek (all of them) is that they generally don't recast and that actors always return. In fact alot of actors played multiple roles over several series. Just seemed like actors used to treasure roles instead of them just being a job and then moving on. If they need to recast then don't bring him back. Move on with another storyline.

If Pike is in the film, I would imagine the part would be small.

Unless they base some plot off of Pike and Spock's earlier relationship where they visited that planet, thereby making the villians the Talosians!

Which were already unveiled as a possibility the other day, the facts are adding up!

@continuezero I completely agree and I'd think Greenwood seems like that kind of guy, one to come back. It's so frustrating to recast, though for Harry Potter I think Dumbledore's recast was unavoidable and very well done.

Whoops, three posts in a row :/

I loved Captain Pike in the first one and I hope he comes back. Bruce Greenwood was the best Pike.

@continuezero actually the Captain Pike character was recast when he appeared in the Original Series. He was originally played by Jeffrey Hunter in the original Star Trek pilot episode, and then recast in his next appearance, when he was played by Sean Kenney (although stock footage of Hunter in the role was used in the same episode). But yes, Bruce Greenwood did own the role in the film, and if the character returns, he should too.

@ACira Yeah definitely I know what you're talkin about. I realise they've recast a couple of times but for the most part they've been pretty good. I mean even early characters that would return years later or in movies later or in different series later. Its amazing they've kept any changes so minimal imo. I just like Star Trek having that continuity...I dont know. Its just something I've liked about it. It all ties together well.
