Could This Be The First Teaser Image For Star Trek 2?

What appears to be some sort of teaser image for the upcoming J.J. Abrams helmed sequel features a very cool look at the Starship Enterprise...

Here's what Collider had to say about the following image that they came across earlier today:

I have a friend who works in (removed for obvious reasons) and this image/poster came across his desk today. If I were a betting man, I’d say the image is for some sort of merchandising item, or for some group that needs to plan very far ahead. But I really don’t know where it originates from. Hell, it could be an image from an upcoming Star Trek calendar.

The Star Trek sequel is expected to kick off principal photography sometime next year for a scheduled June 29, 2012 release date in the U.S. J.J. Abrams is likely to return to the directing position though he has not confirmed it yet.

Either way, not terribly impressive or revelatory.

I don't understand the whole Trek vs. Wars thing. They don't have anything in common, other than being set mostly in space. One is sci-fi (exploring the galaxy), the other is fantasy (magic space wizards). They both have been done very well and very badly. Liking one should have nothing to do with liking the other.

I love Star Trek, but I'm a Fanboy (Star Wars), my bro. and dad are the Trekky's. It's fake, WTF would they make a poster 2 years before the movie?

Star Trek got way better with the last film. No longer were they guidance councilors in space.

I doubt that it has anything to do with the movie but figured it was worth posting on the slim chance that it does! Funnily enough, I watched Star Trek again last night on blu-ray and although I enjoyed it just as much as the first time I saw it last year, the ending felt a little anti climatic. A bigger set piece to finish things off would be nice for the sequel IMO. :P

For sure NOT a teaser poster. Being basic is not the reason. How many teaser posters have we seen that were basic? Batman 89, that poster was pretty darn basic if you ask me. The tip off is the use of STAR TREK and the lack of indication of a sequel, ie subtitle. I might say that it was a teaser poster, if all they had was the SUMMER 2012 on it. It's safe to say that, fan or not, the Enterprise is pretty recognizable, and movie goers would guess that it was for STAR TREK.

@LEEE777 Clash of the Titans remake, is no STAR TREK remake. Titans BLEW! LOL
