Speaking to I Am Rogue, Rachel Nichols - who briefly played 'Gaila' in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot - comments on the pending status of the film, saying that she doesn't have any information on when filming begins or if her character will even be included. She says that she'd still want to reprise her role as Gaila if the character will be included in the film, however.

Finally, have you heard anything about when Star Trek 2 will begin shooting and do you know if your character will be included in the new film?

You know I always joke that the most secret of auditions that I’ve ever had have been for J.J. Abrams. I wish I had some information. If for some reason I did have information I probably couldn’t tell you but truthfully I don’t have any information. I don’t know when Star Trek 2 is slated to go. I don’t know if they are thinking that Gaila is dead, or if they’re thinking of bringing Gaila back, I have absolutely no idea. I would love to go back. I would happily spend the hours of green paint insanity to go back and have a few scenes in the next one as well.

J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel will supposedly begin production this winter, possibly for a late 2012/early 2013 release.

Was that the green chick? Or am I thinking of someone else?

@Ironknight Yeah, she was the green chick. I'd be surprised if she returns for the sequel, since she had such a small role in the first film (unless she gets a cameo or two in #2).

I'm pretty sure she was on one of the first ships that arrived at Vulcan and was destroyed by Nero. So I don't think she'll be back. I'm sure there's plenty of green chicks left in the galaxy for Kirk to nail! ;)

The only reason she might come back (or two reasons) one is her rising fame, and how much all us guys seem to like her. but mainly she was in the last season of Alias. JJ seems to like to work with people he's worked with previously, especially for little cameo roles (which is basically what her role was in the first film, I heard she had a bigger part but it got cut out.) But for example Greg Grunberg who is a childhood friend of Abrams was a star of Felicity, then was on Alias as a full time character, he then had a very small cameo in Lost as the pilot, and a very small cameo in Super 8. Also actor Amanda Foreman who had a small but reoccuring role in Alias had a breif cameo as Hanity in Star trek as well. Abrams likes to reuse cast much like Chris Nolan, so I would look for her to possibly pop up somewhere, unless without a doubt she was on one of the ships that blew.
