STAR TREK 4 Made Official By Paramount; THOR Star Chris Hemsworth Confirmed To Return As George Kirk

There was talk this weekend that Chris Hemsworth (Ghostbusters) might return to the Star Trek franchise, but the news has now been made official as Paramount gives a fourth chapter the green light...

With the release of Star Trek Beyond just days away, Paramount Pictures, Skydance, and Bad Robot have today confirmed that a fourth instalment of the franchise is definitely happening (those good reviews for the latest chapter have clearly left them confident in its chances of success). Chris Pine will return as Captain Kirk, while the rest of the cast are also expected to reprise their roles in the movie.

However, here's where things get really interesting. Deadline reveals that the plot of the next movie will head in the following direction: "Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father. Chris Hemsworth, who appeared in the 2009 reboot Star Trek, will return to play George Kirk."

Hemsworth returning to the Star Trek franchise is huge news, and while he may have only shown up for a few minutes in the J.J. Abrams helmed reboot, he made his mark, especially as that was perhaps his most noteworthy role before Thor was released in 2011. THere's no director or release date for Star Trek 4 yet, but J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the screenplay and J.J. Abrams will produce.

I like how you put Ghostbusters for Hemsworth instead of Thor in the teaser.

@Quicker - Lin may be too busy with Space Jam 2 to come back, and I'd assume Abrams would be taking a break after Star Wars, so it looks like the chair's open again.
