Star Trek is celebrating its 60th anniversary in a big way, and one of the most unusual tributes is coming from the world of trading cards. Wizards of the Coast has revealed new details about its Magic: The Gathering crossover with the franchise, and the set includes rare cards that were physically signed by the actors who brought Trek's most famous characters to life.
Wizards is pitching the set as a tribute to every Starfleet captain, and it covers nearly every film and series in the franchise's history.
Signed Cards From The Star Trek Cast
There are seven signed headliner cards in the set. Each one shows a portrait of a Star Trek character against a cosmic background and carries a real signature from the actor who played them. Fewer than 250 copies of each card exist, and they are randomly inserted into Collector Boosters.
Wizards has already shown off signed cards for Captain James T. Kirk, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Captain Kathryn Janeway, Lieutenant Commander Data, Seven of Nine and Geordi La Forge. The publisher has not listed which actor signed each individual card, but the characters point to some of the biggest names in Trek history.
"The actors of Star Trek are synonymous with the franchise's impact, and they've brought their gravitas and likenesses to Magic with these signed headliner cards," Wizards says. "These signatures, which come paired with a portrait-style depiction of their character, are a genuine piece of Star Trek history."
From The Movies To The Kelvin Timeline
Star Trek's film history plays a big role in the set. Classic Enterprise cards are designed to look like the vintage Star Trek movie posters that hung in theaters, with a painterly, textured art style that harks back to the era of The Original Series and its films.
The Kelvin timeline also gets its due. The set's stardates cards, which reimagine famous Magic reprints within the Star Trek universe, include alternate versions of characters from Star Trek (2009) and its sequels. Wizards' card gallery even has a dedicated Kelvin Timeline filter for fans who want to find those cards quickly.
On the TV side, cards cover The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks, with scene cards recreating moments like Data facing Locutus and Janeway battling the Borg Collective.
A nine-card scene gathers Odo, Quark, Sisko, Jadzia and more of the Deep Space Nine crew, while a separate Enterprise-Q Scene Box shows Q causing chaos on the bridge. Klingon fans can also hunt for Klingon script cards, which are printed entirely in the Klingon language and appear only in Collector Boosters.
Picard, Spock, Worf And The Borg Queen Lead Four Commander Decks
The set launches with four Commander decks, each with a borderless face commander and 32 new-to-Magic cards:
- Federation Fleet, led by Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary
- Landing Party, led by Commander Spock
- Klingon Fury, led by Worf, Defiant Commander
- We Are the Borg, led by The Borg Queen
Standard Commander decks cost $74.99, while Collector's Edition versions with every card in surge foil cost $159.99.
New mechanics are built around the show as well. Beam Me Up lets players cast spells from their graveyard by returning creatures to their hand, and Strange New Worlds rewards players for controlling lands with different names. Starships like the Enterprise appear as Spacecraft cards, and eight of them get special schematic-style promos in the new Beam Me Up Bundle.
Release Date
The Star Trek set arrives on MTG Arena on November 10, with the global tabletop release following on November 13, 2026. Prerelease events run from November 6 to 12 at local game stores.
Star Trek is the latest big franchise to join Magic's Universes Beyond line this year, following Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Super Heroes and The Hobbit.
