The second season of Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere on January 17, and CBS All Access (via IGN) has debuted a series of character banners in anticipation.

The posters feature several main players standing back-to-back, including new recruits Ethan Peck as Spock and Anson Mount as Captain Pike. It also looks like Wilson Cruz will reprise his role as Dr. Culber despite being killed off during season 1, so it looks like we may be in for some more Mirror Universe shenanigans.

Check out the posters below, and let us know if you're looking forward to rejoining the crew of The Discovery as they continue their mission in the final frontier.

Pike And Georgiou

Michelle Yeoh returns as former Mirror Universe Emperor Philippa Georgiou (now a recruit in Starfleet's covert Section 31), alongside former Inhumans actor Anson Mount as a new incarnation of Captain Christopher Pike.

Tilly And Saru

The ever-affable Ensign Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) and Commander Saru (Doug Jones), who will have a much bigger role in season 2's plot.

Stamets And Culber

Lt. Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) and his deceased love Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), who will return in season 2... somehow!

Burnham And Spock

Finally, we have series lead Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her adoptive brother Mr. Spock (Ethan Peck). This take on the iconic Vulcan has not yet fully committed to logic, which is why he was seen cracking a smile in the trailer.

I have very little desire to see much of Emperor Philippa Georgiou again, I'm not sure I can ever take Anson Mount seriously again after only knowing him from Inhumans, and I really don't think I want to deal with a new prequel-Spock.

So I guess unless this gets 'unmissable'-type reviews from pretty much everyone I'll sit this one out.

The Orville makes me think of a Galaxy Quest rip off. I'm not as thrilled by it as many others are, but I do enjoy watching it. Discovery has been a mixed bag during the first season. Some things I could definitely do without and others I thought really good. I'll be there during the second season run. And by the way, at least two of the shorts they produced between the two seasons were quite good. IMHO of course...

Georgiou should be left to season 1 or perhaps come back as a guest spot in a season later down the line when the show is better established.

This to me reeks of "Michelle Yeoh is a recognizable actor, so let's find a way to keep her in the show" when really they shouldn't.
