STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION Exclusive: Michael Dorn Says Prosthetics Was "Only Dark Spot About The Show"

During our recent chat with actor Michael Dorn about his time on Star Trek: The Next Generation, he told us the one thing about playing Worf that he most likely wouldn't want to do again.

Michael Dorn has been acting for decades, and although he has also done a tremendous amount of voice work in recent years, he still works on live-action projects now and then.

One example is the upcoming sci-fi film, Agent: Revelation, and we recently spoke with Dorn in support of the movie.

As the bulk of Dorn's credits are involved with the Star Trek franchise in one way or another, largely in part to his legendary portrayal of Worf three decades ago, we also asked about the prosthetics process and what it was like back in the late eighties and early nineties.

He expressed how difficult it made his job and how "out of control" the daily three-hour long sessions to prep for shooting would get.

"It was the one really dark spot about doing the show. I love the people, and I love the character, and the work was great. It was always nice to have a job, but that three hours every morning was out of control. And the first two years it got really bad. I had a very bad skin condition that came up, and I thought I had to quit. I really did. I didn't want to. And I told the producers, it's not about anything, but I just, I got to have a career after this show's over. And luckily, they took the time and the effort to change it so that it didn't cause too much trouble.

But I would say, luckily enough, they don't do 26 episodes of anything these days, except for maybe sitcoms and things like that. So I would tell people to be careful what you wish for because make-up is really, really difficult. And we've had people come on The Next Generation. Like there were radio DJs and a lot of people that would say, 'Oh God, I really want to do that. I'll come on as an alien.' And they really want to do it. And the day after they're done, they'll say, I'll never do this again. I will never. And I mean, I don't know if I'd ever do it again. I have no idea."

Hear all of this and more in the below clip from our chat with Dorn, and be sure to leave your thoughts in the usual spot.
