Apparently J.J. Abrams Is Frontrunner To Direct STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

Though the Force Awakens director will be skipping the next instalment in the new trilogy, word is he's at the top of LucasFilm's list of potential Episode IX directors to return to helm the final film.

The final movie in the new Star Wars trilogy isn't set to hit theaters until 2019, but that hasn't stopped Latino Review from doing some digging and coming up with the name of a potential director for it. According to them, J.J. Abrams is looking likely to return to helm Star Wars Episode IX after Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) handles the middle instalment, which is due for release in 2017.

Apparently Disney/LucasFilm are very pleased with what Abrams delivered with The Force Awakens, and despite rumors of behind-the-scenes disagreements, it seems he's the man they want in charge of Episode IX. Of course, we'll have to take this as a rumor too for now, and there is a lot that can change before cameras start rolling on this project, but we'll keep you posted if we get any updates.

He killed off Han after realizing that Ford is more brittle that burnt sugar, that rewrite saved them a lot of money in CGI so they are definitely bringing him back.

Well, let's see how Episode VII does first. :P

But by the look of things, J.J.'s got a good handle on moving the franchise forward. If he brings his A game, I'm down with it.

December just needs to get here already!!!

Could the server problems be linked to the crazy solar activities we have been getting this week? We've had northen lights in the sky the past days way more south than usual in Europe. Usually they can only be seek in the far north but Ive beek reading reports of northen lights all the way down in Germany. The news gave warnings about the risk of it messing up electronics etc.

8: Written and directed by Rian Johnson

9: Written by Rian Johnson and JJ, directed by JJ

Well, it looks like Star Wars is setting itself up to be the greatest thing ever.

I'm calling bullshit that Abrams is the front runner since Rian Johnson is already gonna write the screenplay to Episode 9. He will likely direct it.

I don't care if I thought Into Darkness was mediocre. He abandoned Star Trek, so he can direct a blade across his wrist for all I care >:(

I had kind of hoped that JJ would only be directly involved with the first film. He has some of the absolute best technical skills in the business...but when it comes down to actually telling a story, he leaves a lot to be desired. Granted, everything I've heard so far about The Force Awakens has me feeling pretty good, so hopefully this is the one movie where he finally puts it all together.

But somehow I don't think lightning will strike twice, so I'd be more than comfortable with Rian Johnson taking the reins of the trilogy. Or if he doesn't direct Episode 9, then someone else. Once upon a time, I would've said that Neil Blomkamp would've been perfect for Star Wars...but it's looking more and more likely that he's a one-hit wonder. Too bad.

@Jollem Chappie was awesome dude. Hugh Jackman didn't necessarily come across as intimidating-more a guy who picks on people weaker than he is aka Bully, but I enjoyed it a lot. Don't get the criticism-considering how shitty the Awards and pretty much everything else in Hollywood is....

Well that's great to hear since that means they like what they see with The Force Awakens. I still believe Episode 7 will be the best Star Wars movie yet.

It kind of helps to read reviews once in a while. You just have to read the right ones. Contrary to random internet users who think they know everything about movies, most critics actually know their shit when it comes to this medium, and so one might learn a thing or two by opening up to that. If you're into that kind of thing, of course.
