Angela Bassett is a Hollywood icon, and while we've already seen the actress lend her immense talents to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appears a trip into the Galaxy Far, Far Away could be in the works for the multiple-time Oscar-nominee.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via SFFGazette.com), the Black Panther star has met with Lucasfilm to discuss taking on a role in a future Star Wars project.

There's no word on whether this would be a movie or TV show, but the actress has experience in both realms. Richtman makes no mention of what character or story we could see Bassett appear in and this may well have been a general meeting about potential future collaborations.

It's hard not to be excited by this news, but we'd imagine the only way Lucasfilm will woo Bassett is with a meaty role and a project that's grounded in human emotions rather than shot entirely on The Volume like many of the studio's Disney+ offerings.

"Well, here’s the thing. It was there," Bassett previously said when asked about Anthony Hopkins' comments that his time in the MCU was mostly spent in front of green screens.

"The throne room was there, the floor of red clay, the elevation with the Dora Milaje flanking around, the grand doors that they walk through," she continued. "So maybe you don’t see the world of Wakanda, but we had that."

"When Shuri and I went out into the wild, we had trees and bushes and water for yards and yards and yards, and Namor came up out of the water and flew to us. We had the entire ship, and the attention to detail inside of it was just magnificent. So I had it much better than Anthony Hopkins."

Bassett gained widespread recognition and critical acclaim for her portrayal of Tina Turner in 1993's What's Love Got to Do With It. Her portrayal of the iconic singer earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, making her the first African-American woman to be nominated in that category for a leading role.

Other noteworthy credits include Malcolm X (1992), Waiting to Exhale (1995), How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998), The Score (2001), Ray (2004), Green Lantern (2011), and Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018), among others.

In addition to her film work, Bassett has also made significant contributions to television. She has appeared in numerous TV shows and miniseries, including American Horror Story, for which she received several Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

Most recently, the actress made history by becoming the first actor to receive an Oscar nomination for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She lost to Jamie Lee Curtis but has since been awarded an honourary Oscar for her contributions to cinema.

Who do you think Bassett could play in the Star Wars Galaxy?

@supermanrex - yes, because obi wan and the sequel trilogy would be so good if only people would stop pointing out why it's terrible 🙄

Even daisy ridley is going out of her way to defend the fans now, calling all the toxicity "terribly overblown". And you'd think the person playing rey would've had it the worst.

@Origame - you can dislike obi wan all you want. i dont give a shit. the toxicity is from people attacking and cyber bullying Moses Ingram cause they didn't like Reva. That's unacceptable and Daisy Ridley is not giving a blanket pass to those idiots. Those same idiots are already attacking her over her next film which hasn't even started filming yet. youtube is full of videos of these idiots attacking her. it was all racially motivated under the guise of oh its a bad character. get the [frick] outta here with that.

She was a great Amanda Waller. That casting, along with Mark Strong being casted as Sinestro, is about the best castings they've done.

She would be great as a Jedi or even a crime boss figure in the underworld imo…

The latter perhaps being in Lando?.
