BOX OFFICE: Early Tracking Points To A Record Smashing Opening For STAR WARS

Well, you saw this coming, right? Very early tracking figures are in for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it's expected to completely decimate the records broken by Jurassic World earlier this year. Hit the jump for all the latest details...

With still a month to go until the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it may seem to early for tracking data, but the always reliable Collider has a report up with some very interesting figures. After record ticket sales last month, it should come as no surprise to learn that the highly anticipated J.J. Abrams helmed release looks set to open with $225 million, a figure which puts it miles ahead of both Jurassic World ($208 million) and The Avengers ($207 million). As the site points out, this is a very modest prediction, but with zero competition on IMAX screens and screenings night and day, the Force is clearly strong with this one...stay tuned to CBM for updates!

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars Episode VII is set to be released on December 18th, 2015. $2.5 Billion, I'm calling it. I just don't think it'll beat Avatar somehow.

BUT BY GOD THIS BETTER BEAT TIANIC FOR CHRISTS SAKE!

All i hear is that the theaters are gonna stuffed with more star wars nerds than gays in a bukakke gangbang in san francisco at a pride parade, so I'll for the hype to die down... eventually

Time to retreat under my rock and play Fallout 4 for the next six months. See you all then, unless I die for not moving for more than 48 hours.

I'm gonna wait for the nerds to clear out.
The last thing I want is to be sitting next to a crying 45 year old Ewok in a crowded theater.

@craigferguson,

Did Coogler pass on Black Panther?

@craigferguson

Coogler has passed on it too? Is there even a script available yet?

It's already made more than that in plastic toys. The markup on action figures is about 16000 %

It'll have a huge opening weekend, but then word of mouth will spread and it won't beat Avatar.

lol... Um didn't anyone think this wasn't going to break records?? Doesn't take a genius to figure out..
StarWars + Disney + Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie + JJ = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I am sure I'll see it eventually. I just refuse to buy tickets three months before a movie releases. And with all my local theaters doing assigned seating so you can't just buy a ticket and go I become even less interested. I hate the idea of planning my schedule 2-3 months in advance around a movie opening.

Dagggg man, I was really pumped to see what Coogler could do, but it's all good. He's still growing as a director and I can only see bigger things happening for him in the near future. Guess BP won't be one of them sadly.... :,(

You got a link to the source?

Won't beat Avatar or Titanic, but I see it getting around 1.875 mil WW.

Will I see it at least 3 times, though?
