Confirmed: Michael Arndt Will Write The Screenplay For STAR WARS EPISODE: VII

Disney and Lucasfilm have just confirmed what we basically already knew yesterday, that Michael Arndt, screenwriter of Toy Story 3, will pen the script for Star Wars: Episode VII. Thoughts?

It was only just yesterday when news broke that Michael Arndt had written a treatment for Star Wars: Episode VII, and today it has been confirmed that Arndt not only wrote the treatment, but is also writing the screenplay. StarWars.com, in conjunction with Disney and Lucasfilm, has issued an official statement:

As pre-production of Star Wars: Episode VII begins, Lucasfilm has confirmed that award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay for the new Star Wars film. As revealed in the ongoing video series posted here on StarWars.com, Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas have begun story conferences with Arndt. Arndt won an Academy Award® for Best Original Screenplay for writing Little Miss Sunshine (2006), and was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing Toy Story 3 (2010).

Arndt is quite the prize, as he is not only an Oscar winner (Little Miss Sunshine), but also a huge fan of Star Wars. But then again, who isn't? His admiration for the original trilogy usually spills over into his lectures on screenplays, referring to the Return of the Jedi's ending as "Masterful." May the force be with him.

Love it. This is good news. And the main reason I'm so ok with it? Toy Story 3 made me shed tears in the theater. It was powerful, especially if you'd grown up watching those movies. I can only imagine what he'll do with something like Star Wars

Could it actually be that fans will get the Star Wars movies they've always deserved? Imagine, Star Wars made by people who actually know how to write for and direct quality films. And from Disney??
Who would have thought?

Well, at the very least, he's not a hack. But only time will tell if he's the right guy for Star Wars. I sincerely hope that's the case.

Yes! This is great! Perfect. I was hoping the rumors were true. Lets look at it this way...

Little Miss Sunshine is known as one of those movies that at the surface, wouldn't be for everyone. The dark humor, the druggie grandpa, a lot of people would be turned off by it, but that was a movie that makes you care so deeply for the characters and makes a bizarre situation completely relatable and lovable.

Then with Toy Story 3 he showed that he can step into a beloved film series and find the voice of all the characters AND take the direction of the series into an exciting, thrilling conclusion.

He is a damned fine screenwriter. Just what we should want.

Yes!!! this is a perfect storm if you ask me :) Shibby is going to be in full fledged BabE Fett costume that eve ;P

Good news. Still got my opinion about Disney, but Toy Story 3 was amazing so this is a step in the right direction. Just don't screw this up Disney!!
