It Looks Like Disney And Lucasfilm Are Once Again Developing STAR WARS Spinoff Movie BOBA FETT

A Boba Fett movie has been in development since Disney purchased Lucasfilm but the project has stalled in recent years after the loss of director Josh Trank. Now, it looks like it may be back in the works.

According to a new report, Disney and Lucasfilm have lined up another movie to shoot at Pinewood Studios in the UK and the signs are all pointing to that being Boba Fett. X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg is once again attached as a producer alongside Lawrence Kasdan and the working title of the project is reportedly "Tin Can" (a pretty obvious reference to the fan-favourite bounty hunter).

Back in 2012, it was reported that the plan was for Lucasfilm to develop a Boba Fett movie and it was the following year we learned Chronicle director Josh Trank had been hired to take the helm of that with Kinberg penning the screenplay. However, the former's behaviour on the set of Fox's Fantastic Four movie led to him being fired and we've only heard the odd mention of this project since then.

Nothing has obviously been confirmed as of yet and the studio is said to also be working on an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, so who knows when this one will see the light of day. It's possible Lucasfilm is waiting to see how X-Men: Dark Phoenix does and that they'll then ask Kinberg to take the helm of this spinoff. Either way, the studio clearly has plans for Boba Fett and more will no doubt be revealed soon.

Not a big SW fan (not that I dislike it). I remember reading about this project before. Is this considered a bad idea among SW fans?

Boba Fett film = good idea.

Kinberg = bad idea.

The guy we want directing a Boba Fett film in my opinion is GEORGE MILLER.

@TheFamousJMC - Curious, is Boba Fett one of those characters like Dredd where you prefer not to say his face?

@Highflyer - Well I suppose when he first appeared during the 80s that was the case but we learned in the prequels that he's a clone of Jango Fett. So we know exactly how he looks under the mask now.

@Highflyer - this Star Wars fan thinks it is a terrible idea.

The appeal of boba is his mysterious nature, and even then a lot of Star Wars fans think he is ridiculously overrated (myself included).

@Highflyer - @Nightwing1015 -

It would be fun if Boba was like the Dread Pirate Roberts, and the guy under the mask was a successor to the prequel Fett.

Too bad also because imo Riz Ahmed would've been a great Fett, but he's already been seen in the SWU. Maybe Rami Makel will get consideration, he has the gravitas.

This guy and Harley Quinn are the two pop culture characters that seriously baffle me with their popularity.

I don't get it. I just don't.

It's hardly surprising news, let's face it; and his popularity as both a toy and as a cultural icon mean that brand recognition is not an issue. It all comes down to the right team being behind the production. Rogue one was ok and made money, but it didn't really add to the Star Wars lore in any real meaningful way other than to introduce Khyber crystals and segueway into ANH. They need to really get this one right or they'll just stick with trilogies. Hey, they could BC always call George up.

Such an overrated character

Never saw him for more than 5 minutes in the movies and every time we did he got slapped like a bitch

@JakeyChappers - Don't you think it's more interesting to flesh out an underserved character with cult popularity than focus on characters who were already principles in the films?

I've been a lot of anti-Boba Fett sentiment lately, why is that? Is it the new thing to not like this character?

Personally, I'm a fan of him. He wasn't done any justice in Return of the Jedi, but his appearance in Empire Strikes Back and the mystique about him led a lot of people to want to know more about him. He's essentially the only other masked badass in Star Wars. He has guns, wrist rockets, a cape, and a jetpack. That's pretty damn badass. What more, when Vader speaks to the bounty hunters about how to retrieve Han, he specifically speaks to Boba about "no disintegrations." WHAT??! This guy is notorious for incinerating people? Even more so, he is the only bounty hunter to properly track Han down. And he gets his prize, is paid by the Empire, and paid again by Jabba.

His voice, his look, hints at what he's capable of, etc. have all interested fans for years. Why now, is everyone so confused as to his appeal?

@VicSage - nah I've heard dislike for boba basically my whole life. When I was a kid I didn't understand why some people hated him, but now I get it.

@Doomsday8888 - So it's wrong to make movies out of an IP you happen to own. Why even own an IP if you're not going to do anything with it. Atleast Disney is putting actual care into these films rather than other studios and their IPs (*cough* DCEU *cough*)

I like him, but I prefer they get away from the original trilogy. What's next, Lando A Star Wars Story? If they do Boba Fett, make him more like Alex Murphy, aka RoboCop, maybe even give him some cybernetic arm. It depends on where in the timeline they decide to place the film. Will it be after Empire or after Return of the Jedi. Where's my Indiana Jones movie at? Hold off on Fett.

I still want that 1313 game. Very sore subject. One of the main reasons I bought a PS4.
