Lord And Miller's SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Would Have Been Like GOTG; How Much Of The Movie Is Ron Howard's?

An in-depth report reveals plenty of new details about all the behind the scenes drama going on with Solo: A Star Wars Story, including on-set disagreements, those extensive reshoots, and much, much more.

It's no secret that Solo: A Star Wars Story has suffered from some behind the scenes issues but a new report now sheds some light on where things went wrong for Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Apparently, the filmmakers wanted to find a contemporary tone that found a balance between adventure and comedy, something which didn't go down particularly well with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

However, it's said that Lord and Miller clashed with Lawrence Kasdan over the script from the very start and tensions only continued increasing once shooting started. That's mostly because the directors shot dozens of different versions of the same scenes straying from the script and frustrating exhausted crew members who are used to Star Wars movies moving along at a much quicker (and easier) pace.

When Kasdan visited the set, he made no secret of the fact he wasn't happy with Lord and Miller's work, something which left them feeling undermined. Ultimately, Kennedy decided to fire them but that came as a complete surprise because they had been trying to make changes based on her feedback. When Ron Howard came on board, he reshot scenes in a matter of hours that the 21 Jump Street directors spent an entire day working on. Now, it's said 70% of the movie came from reshoots.

"Ron wanted to go back to the spirit of the original trilogy, while Phil and Chris were looking forward to something new, more like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’" one source with knowledge of the situation says. It was last winter that Lord and Miller saw Howard's first cut of the movie and it was then they decided not to seek a director credit through the Directors Guild of America. What do you think?

@Kyos - Of course he's not going to be like the Han we see in the OT. This movie is about HOW he becomes the Han we all know and love.

@repulse93 - I know that. And if they miraculously had presented younger-than-OT Harrison Ford to star in it I would watch it.

We don’t want comedy - but then we make Last Jedi

@FunkyDormammu - Yeah, nothing but laughs all around. I mean, remember when Luke was going through PTSD flashbacks - hilarious!
Rey finally realizing that her parents were no one and abandoned her for the sake of getting drunk? I couldn't stop giggling!
Luke's reunion with Leia and Kylo wherein his tale concludes in the same poignant manner it began? LMFAO!

Thanks God for Ron Howard then. Leave the Guardians in the MCU, where they fit. I'll even add that I wasn't a fan of Vol II, but luckily their humor was a lot better in Infinity War.

@SwampThing - Weirdly, I'm someone who DESPISED the first film but loved Volume 2.

Idk, a GOTG style film in the Star Wars universe still sounds interesting to me idc done right, and I feel they could do it right, just not for a Solo prequel. Give them a spin off or something though, new characters disconnected from main stories

Leave the Guardians to James Gunn. If this was going to be the case then I doubt young Han would ever have a chance to be accepted by the audience.

I still would like to see that crossover with MIB and Jump Street as it was rumored but I guess it isn’t now that they are planning a reboot with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in talks to join.

Can’t wait for Solo.

I like Lord and Miller, but I just feel like Ron's touch to this film captures the spirit of A New Hope and Empire better than any of the Kathleen kennedy produced Star Wars films thus far. And I think this movie does needs that original trilogy touch the most, just in spirit, not because it's Han.

With the Sequel Trilogy, Rouge One and now Solo.
One narrative seems to be constant.

Kennedy doesn’t have a vision for these projects. Which based on her history it’s usuallt Spielberg, Lucas, Zemeckis who had the vision. She was the producer who produced.

But whether it be:

- No starting/working blueprint for the Sequel Trilogy (just letting each director do their own thing.)

- Not understanding that G. Edwards was going to do from a grittier tone stand point with Rogue One.

- Simply handing L&M Solo without a clue apparently their style.

It’s like Kennedy doenT have a vision, she hires people and then simply waits to see what they come up with. If she likes it you have Rian Johnson, if she doesn’t you get fired like Edwards, Trevorrow, Lord and Miller.

Here's a new clip. Is this or is this not like GOTG? I don't know. Just curious what you all think.

Funny cause Star Lord is like a Han Solo, Mal Reynolds hybrid. With a few sprinkles of Andy Dwyer.

Its interesting to see how an influential GOTG has become.

I have officially changed my mind...I now support using CGI to recreate classic characters. We accept that he Incredible Hulk is CGI so I don't see why it is bad when done in Star Wars for Princess Leia or other Star Wars characters.
