SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Manages To Top $100 Million During Opening Weekend...& There's More Good(ish) News!

The Force may not be particularly strong with Solo: A Star Wars Story at the North American box office but there is some good news for the spinoff as it's managed to exceed expectations...to some extent.

Well, the latest figures are in and it's not all bad news for Solo: A Star Wars Story. While analysts thought there might be a chance the movie would debut with only $98 million over the four day weekend, it's actually set to earn $103 million which obviously isn't the best result in the world but at this point, Lucasfilm will likely take solace in the fact that it could have been much, much worse.

Still, over three days, the spinoff was only able to earn $84.7 million and nothing has changed overseas because Memorial Day doesn't stretch that far! In comparison, The Force Awakens debuted with $248 million, Rogue One earned $155 million, and The Last Jedi managed to score $220 million domestically.

On the plus side, Solo has landed the best Memorial Day weekend since 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, it wasn't able to top Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End's $139.8 million opening.

Deadpool 2, meanwhile, has moved to second place with a solid $53.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $218.2 million. Avengers: Infinity War nabbed third place with $21.2 million, pushing its domestic haul past $626 million. What did you decide to check out this weekend? Sound off below.

Haven't seen it yet, but will sometime soon. Everything I hear about it is that it's fun and solid, which is great to hear. Wasn't expecting it to be a juggernaut at the box office, just because I know Han Solo isn't interesting to the G.A. without Harrison Ford.

This will do decent at the BO in the end, but not sure why so many thought it would be a typical Star Wars outcome.

Something about that SOLO CAMEO did it for me and opened up my mind/imagination to a dozen of possible films dealing with the Criminal Underground even envolving an unwittingly participating Solo/Chewie/Lando, exploring more of Jabba, Boba and the bounty hunters, possibly utilizing Thrawn and the Empire...making Prince Xizor a reality and yes toss in OBi-Wan/Uncle Owen on a planet where nothing happens (yet so much does).

That cameo also got me willing to see them stretch to the max the already established Canon even if that has to involve Time Travel or Memory Wipes (because who says OBi-Wan doesn’t know who Han or Chewie are? 😉 and how come Chewie makes no mention of Yoda?)

It has gotten me excited to see all this (if they go this route). So more good news from Solo the better.
