@EmpressCipher - And they try to justify it by getting Phasma to say that she wants to make it hurt. As if an axe will accomplish that. Then Holdo combibulates the Supremacy and all of the surrounding Stormtroopers are teleported away from Finn and Rose, including Phasma. But Rian is a visionary and genius writer and director, sure.

Still, would've been better than her just wearing what were essentially the same rags throughout the entire trilogy.

@BlackBeltJones - A laser Guiliteen is kinda silly actually, I'm not bothered we didn't see it. A firing squad would be better

@Necropolitan - There are so many little details dropped into dialogue that I just don't think serve the franchise well. The Galactic Republic existing in (apparent) stability and the Sith being (apparently) extinct for thousands of years just feels like classic Asimov/Clarke style "deep sci-fi" setup, but Star Wars itself just feels too fluid and volatile for that.

I'm not sure how you would do that kind of overhaul (Star Trek has done two sort-of reboots in ten years, but it was always a different animal.)

If I had a magic wand, I would probably give Dave Filoni a blank check to build out from the Mandalorian from the post-Return of the Jedi setting in any way he wants. Let people vaguely remember the Original Trilogy, but don't get too bogged down into the details (because most people don't remember specific worldbuilding details of those movies). Recast classic characters if he wants. Just treat it like a soft-reboot/alternate reality from anything else in the franchise.

Give him Feige-esque power, with his own gaggle of writers, and see what he does with it. The only problem with this plan is that it would clearly fail to keep up the output that Disney is currently aiming at. They want a movie a year plus probably two shows minimum. And there's all these appealing-on-paper pitches laying around in the aether (like Obi-Wan and Rogue One and KotOR) that Kennedy hand them out to be multi-tracked without any overarching plan. That's been a big problem all along at Disney.

Lucas barely did anything big with the property, so we've got all this pent up fan-friendly speculation and adaptation material that all looks like a roadmap, but it was little more than published brainstorming.
