Adam Driver's Kylo Ren was introduced in
Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a powerful and mysterious villain, but we found out as the movie progressed that he was a normal looking young man beneath the mask, and only covered his face in tribute to his legendary Sith grandfather, Darth Vader.
Well, some new concept art for the character has now been shared on Instagram by Christian Alzmann, and it's clear that Kylo was originally envisioned as a far more monstrous-looking creation.
If this alternate take on Ren may look familiar, it's because it was eventually used as inspiration for the Fifth Brother on the
Star Wars Rebels animated series.
Kylo did pick up a scar at the end of
The Force Awakens and is set to once again don the helmet in
The Rise of Skywalker later this year, but it's hard to imagine him going full Vader in that movie... unless he winds up sharing his grandfather's fiery fate, that is.
What do you guys think of this early design for Kylo Ren?
