STAR WARS: Ewan McGregor, Daisy Ridley, And Alden Ehrenreich Weigh In On Possibly Returning To Franchise

As the Star Wars franchise continues to expand, fans remain keen to see some of their favourites return. Now, Ewan McGregor, Daisy Ridley, and Alden Ehrenreich have all addressed their respective futures.

When any actor joins a major franchise, it's pretty standard for them to then spend their entire careers being asked about a potential return.

Ewan McGregor fielded questions about his iconic Jedi Master for well over 15 years before Obi-Wan Kenobi became a reality on Disney+, but he's once again expressed an interest in heading back to that Galaxy Far, Far Away. The actor appeared to have a blast making the TV series and, when it was released, suggested on multiple occasions he would like to tell more stories.

Talking to the Disney Studio Awards team alongside Darth Vader actor Hayden Christensen, McGregor was asked how he'd feel about a potential season 2.

"I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again, and I hope we get the chance to do it again," he teased. "In the old days, I would joke about, ‘There must be a good story to tell between 'Episode III' and 'VI'.’ But, it’s true. I always felt that there was. I feel like Deborah Chow found it and absolutely nailed it."

Funnily enough, old Ben isn't the only one currently tackling questions about their Star Wars future. Solo: A Star Wars Story's Alden Ehrenreich, who played a young Han Solo in place of Harrison Ford, was recently asked by IndieWire if he still hopes to play the iconic smugger again.

"The story that I did, I really got to be Han Solo at the end. That’s kind of the arc of the story, which I thought was well done. That’s the fun part," he says. "That’s the guy that’s the most fun to be. I’d be very happy to, but who knows."

Fans continue to campaign for Lucasfilm to #MakeSolo2Happen, but with no movement on that or the Lando TV series starring Donald Glover, we're not sure where Ehrenreich could realistically show up. The studio has also started making use of clever VFX to de-age actors, so it seems far more likely that, if Han does return, Ford will play him again.

Moving further ahead in the Star Wars timeline, we've also heard from Daisy Ridley on the odds of coming back as Rey Skywalker. Upcoming movies are thought to be set post-The Rise of Skywalker, so there's definitely a chance it could happen.

"I mean, I’m open to a phone call," she told IMDb"I’m looking for employment!"

It seems they all are, as Ridley, Ehrenreich, and McGregor are all clearly willing to work on a future Star Wars project. We're not sure which of them stands the best shot of doing so, but if Lucasfilm isn't at least mulling over Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 plans, we don't know what to think!

I think Daisy Ridley would make a great Lois Lane for the Gunn Superman. She's got that sharp chutzpah about her that's perfect for Lois.

I feel for Kenobi it needed a few more rewrites, but overall, I still loved it.

Han and Lando need a series together. Bring in Jabba, Maul, Greedo, and a younger Fett voiced by Morrison, but his helmet stays on the entire time.

Young Han Solo needs to be more serious, he needs to stop trying to be funny. That's why I love Harrison Ford's performance, he knew when to be serious and dramatic, and when to have fun.

@Timerider84 - I'll take a smugglers and bounty hunter show. That crime syndicate era between ROTS and ANH is something I wanna see be explored more outside of the comics

Yes, she totally nailed that story between 3 and 4 that can't work in Canon at all if you have even a passing understanding of the 6 movies.

"I’m looking for employment!"

Gotta appreciate the honesty here.

Anyway, I don't mind all of them to return. Kenobi and Rey can face A'Sharad Hett in their respective timelines, and I still wanna see an underworld story set during Solo's timeline too.

@bkmeijer1 - I actually didn’t mind Solo as much as many people seemed to. Besides the forced in easter eggs, I felt like the characters and most of the story beats were neat.

I would like to see more of the underworld criminal gang element introduced here.

@mountainman - same. Think that movie set up a pretty interesting corner of the Star Wars universe I wanna see more of as well

I would prefer a dozen bad Solo movies to 1 more minute of the adventures of mary sue in space. The writing was bad, it broke lore, and I found nothing of value in those movies

Alden Ehrenreich doesn't have the talent to carry that role. But even worse, Disney couldn't pull it off even if they had a young Harrison Ford. The Disney version of Han Solo is a dud. But with Star Wars now just TV shows, maybe Ehrenreich could have a Solo series were he sucks for 6 episodes.
