Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III)

Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)

STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA ON BLU-RAY will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation, along with three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.

Flanked by a legion of his finest Imperial Stormtroopers, Darth Vader himself joined Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment President Mike Dunn at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to announce the release, vowing “The forces of the Empire will be at your disposal to assure the success of this endeavor.’’

“The Star Wars Saga is the most anticipated Blu-ray collection since the launch of the high-def format,” Dunn said. “The epic franchise pioneered sound and visual presentation in theaters and is perfectly suited to do it again in the home, with a viewing experience only possible with Blu-ray.”

“With all six episodes available for the first time in one collection, this is a great way for families and home audiences to experience the complete Saga from start to finish,” said Doug Yates, Vice President of Marketing, Online, Distribution, Lucasfilm Ltd. “And with the quality of high-definition, Blu-ray provides the most immersive home experience possible.”

“The Star Wars franchise has been one of the most anticipated Blu-ray releases by Amazon’s customers,” said Bill Carr, Vice President of Music and Video at Amazon. “We think that Star Wars will be incredibly popular with our customers, and we expect pre-orders to be very strong.”

They should distribute the original trilogy seperately for the true fans of Star Wars, come on, we don't wanna have to buy the prequals just so we can watch Empire in hi def.

Weapon420, one of the things being offered IS the original trilogy without the prequels.

A New Hope and Empire are the only good films in SW and I've seen them so many times I couldn't watch even if Lucas added a nipple slip from Leia...well, maybe for that...PASS.

I wanna know if the original trilogy is the 'original' or the greedo shot first special edition nonsense. Anyone know??

I think I'll pass on this for the time being. I have the Original Trilogy on DVD already, and the prequels arent really worth spending that much money on. All six are only £69.99 on Amazon, so I'll wait until this time next year and pick 'em up for half that. :)

I'd say about 75% or the prequels sucked real hard. I wish I had a time machine so I could go back to around '97 or '98 and find Lucas and say, "Wait, you are about to destroy so many peoples lives. Fire this John Knoll douche bag and let me introduce you to _____ (Whedon, Wright, Ron Moore, etc.)...Oh, and these Gungan things, yeah, you should probably just get rid of them."

I want the original trilogy on Bluray without the CGI bullshit and added Hayden at the end of The Return of the Jedi.

@Bobbydigi81 - I guarantee you its going to be the special editions. Lucas has said time and again that the SE's are the most complete versions of Star Wars. Whether fans agree with that or not is up to them.

I'd say if anything, the originals might be included as either an optional feature or a bonus of some sort. But I doubt they'll go thru the heavy restoration process that the SE's went thru.

For the most part the special editions enhanced the originals except for bull$hit like Greedo shooting first and the even newer addition of Mannequin Skywalker at the end of Return of the Jedi. There was no need for that.

Still, I would like to watch the original originals again. I'll have to find a set on ebay.

I reeeeealy think they should some how carry star wars on,its just to good to end there,i watch 1,2 and 3..and when i got onto 4 i just cudnt watch it because of the different style, its pace i just to slow for me after watching the prequels,5 and 6 are just as good as 1 2 3 though, but i really think they should make The force unleashed film or something because we NEED a new star wars film :) well..i need 1 :D

i definetly will be buying this on blu-ray,then i've got them on every format that matters.

wide screen video tape (1st time in wide screen)

dvd versions

blu-ray (pre-ordered)

i hope they do both versions of the original trilogy & not just the special editions.
spiderneil
spiderneil - 1/6/2011, 2:31 PM
@ marvel72

aint gonna happen. HD restoration is ridiculously expensive so if lucas didn't restore the threatrical version for dvd (it was just the vhs version put on a dvd disk) no way on this earth is the threatical version going to be on the blu ray unless again they just put the vhs version on blu ray (so it will take upvirtually no room on the blu ray).

The prequels sucked... I think most would agree with that. As far as the special editions, they sucked too. Lucas has said that he will not release the original original trilogy versions again.

But if you want to see the best version of the original Star Wars, IMO, check out Adywan's fan edit version of Star Wars: Revisited. This guy did some awesome editing and produced a fantastic version.

I think it is at faneditfilms.org. Check it out, it is awesome.

being one of the hardcore elite SW fans, I find it strange that I do not know how I feel about this yet. I own a BluRay player, I have several other fav movies on Blu-Ray but this one, I dunno yet. But deep inside I know I will still end up buying this. It's like a freaking mind control!

"fire at will commander!" PE-CHOOOOM!

Coincidence that this is being released about the same time the theaters are going to be showing the 3D versions?

I think not...
SaintXHorseFly
SaintXHorseFly - 1/6/2011, 3:00 PM
Anyone else remember the huge marketing campaign for the VHS "Own the original one last time." That was true, because then the Special Editions came out, and most of us bought those again, within a year of buying the 'originals'. Now Lucas is finally releasing these movies on BlueRay, knowing they will sell a ton, and then he is going to release the 3D versions in the theaters, and soon after that those on BlueRay, so most will buy them AGAIN. These are only coming out now, because this is the last chance to sell them as is, knowing full well another version is coming down the pike.

I don't think i'll ever think of Star Wars as highly again after Red Letter Media's reviews. No offense to any fan, but Lucas is a businessman first, then a filmmaker.
Timerider84
Timerider84 - 1/6/2011, 11:04 PM
@Grif, no the deleted scenes are not incorporated into the film itself, and these are the special editions, not the original trilogy. Lucas has stated that, these special editions are his vision for the entire saga, not the originals. Perhaps someday we will get to see them on Blu-ray, but probably not until Lucas keels over and dies, then his children will have full control. Unless, it's stated in his will they never see daylight, then we're screwed.
Timerider84
Timerider84 - 1/6/2011, 11:10 PM
I agree with some of you, there should be another Star Wars film, just as long as it's done right, and shot much like how Episode IV was shot, before there was CGI. This is what we want Lucas, not this fake CGI crap. It only helps in telling the story, not using it as a background all the time. We also want a great story, with great actors, NOT someone like Hayden, someone like Harrison, or Mark Hamill. Do this, and I'll be the first in line to see it.
