STAR WARS Sequel Actress Kelly Marie Tran Is Open To Returning As Rose Tico If It's "The Right Story"

Rose Tico was sidelined in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and actress Kelly Marie Tran has now weighed in on whether she would be open to returning to a Galaxy Far, Far Away as the character...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was a divisive movie, and for whatever reason, fans vented their frustrations on actress Kelly Marie Tran. There was nothing really wrong with Rose Tico as a character, but in a bid to pander to those same "fans," J.J. Abrams completely sidelined the Resistance hero in The Rise of Skywalker

That also generated some backlash, and it was last December that Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu mentioned that he would love to give Rose her own Disney+ series.

When Collider mentioned that to Tran, she responded: "He’s so cool. I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. It’s so strange. I had so much fun being in that world but I feel like the pieces would have to fall into a perfect little puzzle and everything would have to feel like it’s the right time and the right moment and the right story, like with any other project. But I don’t know."

The site noted that Rose is a character who has more story to tell, a sentiment that Tran agrees with. "Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. I think there are a lot of characters in that universe that we have yet to hear enough about."

Clearly, she's undecided about a return, and as of right now, it seems doubtful that Lucasfilm will return to that era in Star Wars history. It's possible Tran might be able to reprise the role in an animated series or something similar, but our best bet right now is that she returns in a novel or comic book.

What do you guys think?

I'd avoid it for her own sake.

Let that series die please. Go all original without strings attached to the current characters. Go ancient jedis steeped in mythology. And for GOD sakes please plan out the whole damn thing.

@MutantEquality - ....even then I’m still not sure I’ll care. They’ll just make someone an amazing hero and then shit all over them.

She went from being a major character to a glorified extra. I wouldn't go back if I were her.

@Highflyer - seriously unless the characters are Rey or Kylo, that happened to everyone, and Rey and Kylo had terrible writting and character progression

Makes sense she had a pretty pointless story in Last Jedi and no actual story in Rise Of Skywalker.

@dracula - probably because shes a pointless character that was shoehorned in. Shes a perfectly fine actress playing a completely pointless character.

Seriously

Ray had a very inconsistent story in the whole trilogy

Finn had a decent start then repeated the same character arc in the second movie and then had nothing in the third

Poe had no story in 7, a pointless story in 8 and no story in 9

Seriously that is a problem with everyone in this trilogy, there is either not enough development for them or the development they do have is written badly and made up on the spot.

If everything hinges on her parameters of "everything would have to feel like it’s the right time and the right moment and the right story", then why'd she sign on for IX? Because she's full of it. Very few people would line up for a Rose Tico movie an yet if they called her with a bit part, dollars to doughnuts says she'd be there with bells on.

No thanks. Not knocking the actress herself but her character was just annoying as all hell.

Considering the hell she went through with the Star Wars zealots and how underutilized she was in the last movie, I'm kinda surprised she'd even consider it.

Raya looks cool though.
