STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Smashes Record For IMAX Ticket Pre-Sales

After pretty much breaking the internet last night, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has annihilated the previously held record for IMAX ticket sales with an astonishing $6.5 million in domestic takings. A good start? Yeah... that's an understatement. More past the jump...

To put this in perspective, the previous single-day advanced sales box office record for IMAX screenings of any movie was $1 million; and Star Wars: The Force Awakens raked in over $6 million.

The tickets went on sale around the same time the trailer debuted, and the demand was so high that the likes of IMAX, Fandango and Movietickets.com buckled under the pressure - but, Fandango managed to confirm the new pre-sales record, with the J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars flick beating the previous record holder, the first Hunger Games.

“The only words to describe the first day of IMAX worldwide advance ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens are 'record-shattering'," said Greg Foster, senior executive VP, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. “We’re seeing sell-outs across the board - from Hollywood to London, to Sparks, Nevada, and everywhere in between."

Impressive. Most impressive. Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters December 18, 2015.

I was gonna get tickets for a midnight release. Then I was reminded by my brother if I had a final that day. I have an 8 AM final the day Force Awakens comes out.

I have a feeling that this movie will be the one to top Avatar in box office takings. I'm in New Zealand and I have never seen cinema websites crash here under the load of people trying to get tickets for a film. By the time I got through I could only get ticket for a Saturday session. That just doesn't happen in this country. It was like trying to get tickets to the biggest band in the world's one and only concert. Regardless, I'm quite excited!

I knew there was no way I was going to get tickets for the opening day, but Saturday is good nonetheless. Star Wars is the only franchise I will watch opening weekend...infact, it's the only film I would have seen in the theater this year. YIKES !

I went online to order my IMAX tickets to see this movie on the date it premieres. Me and my friends want to see this epic movie all dresed up as a group in Amsterdam at 10 o clock in the morning. It is the only time we as a unit can come together considering our work schedule. Or we have to wait(helllll no) three weeks ....Guess what, its already sold out....And while i am typing this shit, shows all over the country are selling tickets like it is candy. Star Wars fever is hitting worldwide people directly in the kisser. It's even more complicated because we want to go 12 man strong....The force is strong in me and i will fix my tickets!!!!

I managed to snag two IMAX tickets. One for AMC IMAX for the 7pm premiere and one for the real deal IMAX the Saturday of that week. I live in Seattle and it's the Pacific Science Center IMAX, which was remodeled last winter with all the newest IMAX tech. I'm still crazy excited.

Finn is NOT related to Mace Windu. If he IS related to a character, it's going to be Lando's son. For one, Mace Windu, unlike Anakin, respected the rules and would not have relations with a woman. And two, his son would be 50 years old.
