STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI - It's Not Just The Porgs Keeping Luke Skywalker Company On That Island
We've already seen the cute little bird-like creatures that inhabit Ahch-To with Luke in The Last Jedi, but now we have a first glimpse of another alien species that calls the island home: The Caretakers.
Another first-look from today's EW coverage of Star Wars: The Last Jedi here, and this time we have a glimpse of a second alien species that resides on Achc-To with Luke Skywalker.
Up until now, we'd been led to believe that the Porgs (also pictured below) were the only thing keeping the exiled Jedi company, but it turns out he also has The Caretakers to converse with - though they're not too thrilled to have someone loitering around the abandoned Jedi temple they're looking after.
Director Rian Johnson offers up a description of these "nun-like" creatures, and explains their presence on the island:
"They’re kind of these sort of fish-bird type aliens who live on the island. They’ve been there for thousands of years, and they essentially keep up the structures on the island. They’re all female, and I wanted them to feel like a remote sort of little nunnery. Neal Scanlan’s crew designed them, and costume designer Michael Kaplan made these working clothes that also reflected sort of a nun-like, spartan sort of existence.”
