STAR WARS: Writer Damon Lindelof May Be Looking To Follow WATCHMEN By Heading To A Galaxy Far, Far Away

According to a new report from The Ankler (via SFFGazette.com), rumour has it that the Emmy-winning of the Watchmen TV show and Lost, Damon Lindelof, is working on a Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm.

There's no word on what the story will focus on, whether there's a co-writer, or even if a director is being eyed for the project. However, Lindelof hasn't been shy about expressing his interest in Star Wars in past interviews and he does feel like a good fit for the iconic franchise.

He's no stranger to space-set adventures, anyway, as he's worked on everything from Star Trek Into Darkness to Prometheus and Cowboys & Aliens.

Despite finding great success on Disney+ with TV shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Lucasfilm is still struggling to crack this Galaxy Far, Far Away on the big screen. Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron movie has been hit by delays and is seemingly stuck in limbo, while it's been a long time since we've received a concrete update on the projects coming our way from the likes of Taika Waititi, Kevin Feige, and J.D. Dillard (Rian Johnson's trilogy seems to be completely M.I.A.).

We'll see what happens with this rumoured movie from Lindelof as there's every chance he's just batting around ideas with the studio. There hasn't actually been a Star Wars story on the big screen since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, so fingers crossed something changes sooner rather than later.

@Vanillain - I just wanna know the pitch. Name talent is great, but all I care about is the story and direction.

Regina King to direct. Nothing of the typical Star Wars movie. I want something else.

Rather he work on a Star Wars show. His film track record is so so but he's a damn talented episodic storyteller.

Would love to see The Rule of Two get a series

Bane is the creator of "The Rule of Two," a Sith doctrine that meant there would only be a master and apprentice; one to embody power, the other to crave it.

@BlackBeltJones - if he does the Rule of Two, I kinda want the first follower (Zannah is her name right?) to be the protagonist of the story. Kinda like Watchmen really, where all the big players are and really drive the story, but it's seen unfolding through the eyes of someone else

@bkmeijer - that would be really cool. Nice shift in perspective

@BlackBeltJones - yeah, think so too. Unlike Watchmen though I'd want this too pick up before the main event that defines the story.

Picking up after the squid made sense for Watchmen, but with this I think it'd be cool to see the fall of al Sith except two too.

@AmazingFILMporg - LMAO this honestly might end up happening too

@BlackBeltJones -

The only way I see it happening is if this film is set in the future, far away from legacy characters.

One on the major problems besides KK leadership is that they keep making star wars films in the past or using legacy characters. Whenever they try to do something different they screw up our beloved characters or screw up canon.

If they come up with something new then alot of our fanboy tears go away. Atleast until they screw something else up💁

@Waddles - Agree, she's damn talented ( like her father of course), get her a great writer to collaborate and we good to go.

@JosephCronos92 - Ron Howard is literally one of the worst major directors in Hollywood. His ‘art’ takes unbelievable liberties with the truth and his depth is middle school tripe

This movie will probably never happen, but The Leftovers is still maybe the best TV show I’ve ever seen

@tmp3 - between you @CurlyBill mentioning it, I feel like I should put it in the front of my backlog of shows I still wanna watch.

@tmp3 - I've read so often that's it's really incredible, I feel almost bad for not watching it. It's not even much, since it's "only" 28 episodes

You know what bring it the hell on. I did find Watchmen a tad overrated, but the Leftovers is one of the greatest underrated shows out there also I will defend Prometheus till my last breath as a great film. I could see Lindelof exploring the light and dark side of the force well.

I won't watch a single movie called "Star Wars Episode" insert whatever.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" and "Star Wars: Rogue One" were more entertaining than Episode I, II, III, 7, 8 and 9, though.

bkmeijer2 - 3/16/2022, 6:05 PM
@MarvelZombie616 - out of the Star Wars movies I've seen on the big screen, it's definitely Rogue One > Solo > 7 > 8 > 9 for me. And even Solo didn't feel like a big screen movie (but is was fun though)

Can’t wait for intriguing premises that go unfulfilled, setups that don’t pay off and questions that remain unanswered. Classic Lindelof

I hope it's a show, because that's where I think he shines most. And also, I kinda hope we won't get a lot of spin-off movies on the big screen. Really takes away the event-feel Star Wars movies had
