In a new Total Film interview Simon Pegg spoke briefly about J.J. Abram's take on Star Wars Episode 7 and how it will have a strong emphasis on bringing the fun back to the franchise.

“What will he bring to the franchise? Everything that was missing from the last three. That’s what he did to Star Trek, really – invigorate it with a little bit of Star Wars magic. He switched it from science-fiction to science-fantasy. And I think if anyone can pull [Star Wars] out of the mire, it’s J.J. He’ll bring the fun back. Lucas seemed to misread what made the first ones great, and concentrate on things that people didn’t really care about, or wilfully ignore the things that people cared about. Whereas J.J. will embrace them all.

Pegg also spoke about some of the things we’ll definitely be seeing in the 2015 sequel.

“We’re going to see the Millennium Falcon again. We’re going to see those characters again. All the things that we loved about the first three, we will see again."

So what do you think? Is a more light hearted and fun take on the franchise as seen in the original trilogy the right direction to head?

UPDATE: User untipoconboina brought to our attention that anything Simon Pegg said to Total Film in relation to Star Wars Episode 7 was pure speculation. Boo!

Still wish they grew balls and got Jake Schreier and David Fincher. They can make up for it by getting them to direct Episode VIII and IX.

Who's a lame actor in Star Trek? I don't want to see them cross over either, but nobody in Star Trek is a bad actor by any means. And why would you think that would happen anyway? None of the Star Trek actors were in Super 8. Sounds like bitching for the sake of bitching.

If anyone deserves to be in [frick]ing Episode 7, it's Pegg. Him and Dan Fogler as well as the rest of the cast in Fanboys should make very hard-to-catch cameos in Star Wars VII. Hell, throw in Kevin Smith.

What the [frick] are you talking about? Kevin Smith,Fogel and Pegg need to stay out of movies altogether. Youre a [frick]ing idiot. Nothing was wrong with I-III and I was a huge fan of the original trilogy.

I like and own the prequels but if you think nothing is wrong with them, you're in denial. "Yipeee!"

So is Pegg involved in Star Wars? I'm confused on how he knows this stuff.

Pegg could play an alien, wouldn't even know it was him. Trek was bad for reusing actors to play several different aliens. But I agree with everyone, Wars and Trek must remain separate. Any crossover is blasphemy.

"Nothing was wrong with I-III"

I was going to make some witty comeback, rendering you completely and utterly dumbstruck like a dumb[frick] but then you said that and I contemplated if you really revered that as a genuine intelligent thought...

So I've decided to take the more sophisticated route and tell myself:

Frankly I hope Pegg is kept far away from Star Wars. He's been shitting on it for so long that he doesn't deserve a role.

Have Pegg and Frost in complete alien makeup standing in the background of a scene, doing nothing particular. Because why not.

@manofmidgard: They aren't recasting anyone. Ford, Hamill and Fisher have signed on to come back. The story most likely won't revolve around them, though. Probably their children.

He said on Twitter that this was mere speculation and that he hasn't talked with Abrams about it.

This article reminds me of "scoopers" who get the top secret info about new rides and attractions from Disney shuttle bus drivers.

Nothing to see here. Move along.
