Will We Finally Learn Supreme Leader Snoke's Identity In STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI?

Supreme Leader Snoke's identity has been a hotly debated topic for a good eighteen months or so now but will we finally learn more about him in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? The answer will shock you.

Vanity Fair gave us our most in-depth look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi to date and in a recent AMA on Reddit to discuss with fans what he saw on set, reporter David Kamp dropped a fascinating new tidbit.

Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans have been wondering what the deal is with Supreme Leader Snoke. We know we'll see more of him in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but it doesn't sound as if it will be anywhere near as much as most of us though. In fact, it appears as if we can probably forget all about learning if the villain really does have a true identity beyond what little we know about him.

"I asked Rian Johnson about Snoke—Who/what is he?—and Rian was fairly up front in saying that Snoke is not a character he particularly gets into in TLJ. Hmmm." It sounds like it will be up to Colin Trevorrow and Star Wars Episode IX to delve into Snoke in that case, meaning we need to wait until 2019 to potentially find out if he's really one of the many different characters fans have theorised.

What do you guys think about these Star Wars: The Last Jedi comments? Sound off in the usual place.

@MexicanCipher - He has made two movies so far "Safety not Guaranteed"- a great, creative character piece
and
"Jurassic World"- a fun action driven blockbuster
I'd say that those two together makes for a pretty solid Episode 9

@Bokis - I have only watched jurasic world. But....It wasnt great. And im one of its fanboys.

It was basically a high budget scfi channel movie. With a giant hybrid dinosaur eating people. Hell they even get it to fight another dinosaur to kill it. It even has stupid plot points, like people getting bored by dinosaurs, and using dinosaurs for soldiers.

It was ok....But episode 9 needs to be truly amazing.

@Bokis - I mean i would argue its got the same plot has dinocroc vs supergater, a terrible film on the scifi channel

Scientists are cloning a horrific dino monster made from the hybrid of a croc and uh....more crocs i guess.

The dinocroc breaks out and kills alot of staff memebrs.

They send a team in to kill it and keep it hush hush. But they lose and are eaten.

So they hire a expert hunter to take him down, they team up with a women and they genreally run from it.

At the end they use a giant croc to fight and kill it.

@Bokis - JW had some really shoddy directing. There's this bit where the kids in the jeep racing to the compound and the guards look at each and say "you don't see that every day", then they look up and you see the Pterdactyls and then cut away to the next scene. So wtf was the point of showing the guards when he doesn't cut back to them shitting themselves. Stuff like that was littered in that movie. So badly cut and directed.

Other area of canon suggest Snoke is from the Unknown Regions of the Galaxy.

In the Aftermath Novels. Sidious (as well as other darkside worhsipers) began to have visions of the darkside of the force. Sidious began to believe the Unknown regions held a sort of Source of the darkside. Thus he began charting the unknown regions + he should interest in beings like Thrawn who came from these regions.

Additionally, the First Order rose from a small fraction of the surviving Empire which went and hid in the Unknown Regions.

@StormXmen123 -

"The First Order rose from a small fraction of the surviving Empire which went and hid in the Unknown Regions"

So... cowards? They clearly had the armies needed to pose a threat yet they hid in the unknown regions until Snoke (who may not even end up being anyone important) basically rallied them together.

@Scarilian - No. It was part of Palpatine plan should he be killed.

He had the remaining Empire regroup on Jakku. Palpatine had no intention of letting the Empire survive. (he believed the Empire that failed him should no longer remain + what use is an Empire if he cant rule it).

However, he permitted a relatively small group (top officers) to head into the unknown regions. Where they came into contact with a super star destroyer.

Its also important to note that even if Palpatine wanted them to fight and reclaim the Empire they would probally lose.
The Imperial Navy was spread spares accross the galaxy. There was chaos as they had losttheir figure head. Some cells accepted his death while others thought it was "rebel lies".

@StormXmen123 -

None of that was in the movies though - and the books constantly get made canon or not canon - so i'm not particularly reliant on that explanation.

Unless you develop your characters then nobody will actually care about your movies.

This is turning out to be a very disappointing film if the 'Emperor' style character you teased in the previous movie is not even worth being given the character development/backstory he needs. Are they really going to waste two movies before we even get the main villain developed?

It looks like this new trilogy is shaping up to be a series of non-explained events and underdeveloped characters.

@MosquitoFarmer - I disagree, he needs some sort of backstory. Otherwise he is just a palpatine rip off.
