William Shatner said what about Star Wars?

The age old geek debate continues! Star Trek or Star Wars which is the winner?

William Shatner (Capt. Kirk) is well known to be a ladies man and the flagship actor for Star Trek. On a recent video interview Shatner was quoted: "Star Trek dealt with human relationships, Star Wars was special effects....was at its best." In effect admitting Star Trek is BETTER than Star Wars!

While I agree with somewhat he says in this interview not everything, I will have to point out that Star Trek came on the air in 1966. During the U.S.'s Civil Rights & Vietnam War era. Thou it was first doesn't mean it's the best!

Gene Roddenberry creator of Star Trek was way ahead of his time being a VISIONARY of what "WE" could be. Star Trek dealt with real issues of the times, amongest other social issues & continues to do so.

Note to Lucas what the Hell are you waiting on. Gives us a Star Wars TV Series already, the technology is here now!

One of my favorite episodes-- The Measure of a Man

Which centers on the android crewmember Data. This one calls into question the very nature of Data’s being, as well as his right to choose. Is he a man, or is he a machine? About human rights and “disposable people.”

P.S. Iam a fan of both but I would pick Star Trek over Star Wars anyday! Let your voice be heard in the usually place!
LIVE LONG & PROSPER!

Star Wars all the way, I love Abrams Trek however. But I don't hate Star Trek or anything, I think it's harder to compare with one mostly being television and the other being pretty much solely movies. But the SW movies are better than the ST movies but the ST shows are probably better than most SW shows. But yeah I've always felt it's an unfair comparison, can't they both just be considered awesome? :)

Star Trek, live long and prosper!

10. Darth Vader has only one sphere, the Death Star. The Borg have thousands upon thousands of spheres AND cubes. (Geometric shapes seem to be a favorite among villans...)
9. Those light sabers are kinda primative compared to phasers. Why have a sword when you can have a gun?
8. Star Trek has four series (soon to be five) and a lot more movies.
7. The Federation vs. The Force. Skywalker wouldn't have a chance!
6. Star Trek's technology is much more advanced. What's so bad about transporters saving you life, anyway?
5. The graphics in Voyager alone are just as good as those in the re-made version of Star Wars.
4. Chakotay doesn't fall in love with Janeway and find out she's his sister.
3. People on Star Wars are mostly planet-ridden. Doesn't seem like there have been any ships lost for seven years to make it back home against all odds, no space stations that survive through constant battles, or anything else like that.
2. There is more than one way to get around...from star ships to shuttles to transporters...from warp to transwarp to slip stream...

And the Number One Reason Why Star Trek is Better Than Star Wars:

The Borg Queen isn't Kathryn Janeway's mother.

1.. Just how many Star Trek films have been made?
2.. None of Star Trek's leading characters have an interminable breathing
obstruction
3.. Star Trek doesn't have to resort to using petty telekinetic forces to
make some action
4.. Star Wars creators obviously can't count as they made 4, 5, and 6
first!?
5.. Strangely enough, all the leading ships in Star Wars are totally
invincible to enemy fire
6.. Star Wars storyline is either so difficult to understand, or so badly
written, that they need to tell us it by scrolling it on the screen before
the film starts
7.. Isn't there some slight similarity between the 'photon' and 'proton'
torpedoes?
8.. And which was created first?
9.. Which sound better: a 'hyperdrive motivator' or a 'warp core'?
Exactly.
10.. Star Trek doesn't have some stupid hairy monster out of Bigfoot and
the Hendersons
11.. One word: Q.
12.. DS9's Dabo girls vs. no women at Tatooine's spaceport bar.
13.. Data would kick C3P0's metal ass.
14.. The new special effects on the trilogy don't even come close to the
effects on the DS9 episode, Sacrifise of Angels

;P

Star Wars, forever and always. I was raised on Star Wars and it helped shape me as a person. but I do love the new Star Trek film, the one with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, and consider it quite supperior to all the SW prequels and Return of the Jedi.

They're such apples and oranges that I'd have a hard time saying which was better. For pure entertainment nothing Star Trek did can touch the original Star Wars trilogy... but for actual, meaty stories then the best episodes of the various Treks have a lot more going for them. Of course, you have to look past all of the bad episodes...

I hate when people talk about Star Trek vs Star Wars as if it was a debate about a "real" between them, comparing technology and all that stuff. It's just a matter of opinion, people.
