Woody Harrelson Won't Call SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY "Epic" But Says It Could Be Really Funny

Save for a few set photos not much is known about Disney and Lucasfilm's next standalone Star Wars film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. We know the production process has been pretty rocky as original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired and replaced by Ron Howard, who turned around and reportedly reshot at least half of the movie.

Until we see some official teasers or trailers, the jury remains out on the controversial project, which sees actor Alden Ehrenreich step into the role of the iconic smuggler Han Solo and attempt to fill the legendary shoes of Harrison Ford.

Creating an origin film for a character as iconic as Han Solo is no easy feat, but actor Woody Harrelson, whose role in the film remains a mystery, seems pretty confident. While he stopped short of calling the movie "epic," the actor does believe it's still a "really good movie." He even hinted that it could be "really funny" as well.

When asked by the Toronto Sun if it felt as if he were part of something epic with Solo: A Star Wars Story, Harrelson replied: "Epic? I can’t think of it in those terms, but I do think we’ve made a really good movie, and it could be a really funny movie, too. And Ron Howard is just a joy."

It's not too surprising to hear Solo: A Star Wars Story could have humor infused in it, though I doubt we'll see the sort of slapstick humor of, say, Thor: Ragnarok. Even in the original trilogy, Han Solo had a sort of brazen humor to him. But can Alden Ehrenreich deliver those same quick-witted one-liners and quips in the same charming manner as Harrison Ford? It's no easy task, that's for sure.

We'll find out next year when Solo: A Star Wars Story blasts into theaters on May 25, 2018, or possibly even before that when the first trailers arrive.

But why this movie ? Han is the most useless character in Star Wars imo, a dirty cowboy making bad jokes, why would we need to know how he got cynical ??

@HappyHater - I really enjoyed the disclaimer at the end but yea hes always been the most overrated character in the franchise...

@MrNegative - yeah peoples over 40 tend to give him to like him way too much, explaining probably why we're getting a movie about him but i'm definitely not gonna pay to watch for that.

I always loved Han, but pretended to be Luke.

But anyway, I think this movie was always intended to be a humorous, swashbuckling smuggler's adventure - never an earth-shattering galactic war epic.

lol not exactly inspiring a ton of confidence there Woody. Not that I really give any sort of shit about this movie.

@Kman - I mean I’d prefer Solo not be an epic film. Hopefully more small-scale in scope. Han shouldnt have had adventures as crazy as Ep 4-6 before Ep 4 ya know?

@Elayem - Id prefer it not be a film at all.... there's so many other more interesting things that could've been done.

@Elayem - But you also have a point... it shouldn't do anything bigger than Episode film for sure.

@HugoStiglitz - Yeah...definitely agree here. So many great movies i've seen, but i re-watch that trilogy multiple times a year...and it is the definition of an epic.

@HugoStiglitz - I had some epic onion rings the other day.

Good.
Epic isn't really the tone/vision a Han Solo movie should have.

I have a bad feeling about this movie. It's very likely to be disjointed and full of forced jokes. In addition there was rumors about Alden Ehrenreich being so incompetent that they had to hire an acting coach to the set.

Jake Gyllenhaal is the guy Matt Reeves wants as Batman... wow. I could see it.

I dont see him as Batman at all (mostly the soft voice and boyish look) but at least he’s a great actor.

@Elayem - John Campea. They might keep the voice modulator for Batman.

@Highflyer - Thanks!
Good point I forgot about the voice modulator. Yeah that could definitely work then. Much needed for Jake’s voice.

I love Star Wars, cast is good, and I do really enjoy Howard as a director...even though he has had some recent clunkers. I just don't care for a whole movie about Solo in the past. Could turn out to be good, which i'm sure it will be. I just want to see past movies revolving around The Old Republic, that can play a HUGE part of a new SW universe with the lore. Just not a fan of prequels that don't really expand their universe. That goes for an Obi-Wan movie as well.
AwesomePromoz
AwesomePromoz - 11/16/2017, 8:36 AM
@Menks123 - I really like the idea of a younger Solo and Chewie getting in and out of "imperial entanglements" without the baggage of the rebellion. More of a gray area Han Solo, a wacky smuggling adventure.
Kurne
Kurne - 11/16/2017, 8:33 AM
The people that would legitimately have an issue with this, can't blame Ron Howard/Disney/the reshoots, considering the improv-comedy WAS kinda the issue from the beginning with Lord & Miller, so...
Menks123
Menks123 - 11/16/2017, 8:37 AM
@Kurne - I love Lord and Miller, but from what I have read...they simply were just not a good fit for what was wanted. People will over react about it, but shit happens.

They will get another huge gig and kill it.
