20th Century Studios, New Regency and Entertainment One have released the first trailer for The Creator, a new sci-fi action thriller from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards, starring Tenet's John David Washington.

Aside from the initial title announcement last year, we haven't heard much about this one at all until now. This is obviously not always a great sign, but the trailer does look pretty good.

The story focuses on Washington's ex-special forces agent, who has a chance to rid the world of a potentially catastrophic AI... if he can bring himself to kill a child to achieve his mission.

Terminator meets The Last of Us? Check out the trailer and poster below, and let us know what you think in the comments.

“Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself.

Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory… only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child.”

The Creator also stars Gemma Chan (Eternals), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Sturgill Simpson (Dog), newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles and Academy Award winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya), and is set to hit theaters on September 29.

Neat. I remember having a similar idea for how to continue the terminator franchise. Wonder if this'll end up basically being the new terminator.

@Origame - literally just watched this trailer. It looks like it could be very good.

@Origame -

Definitely the Terminator Future War movie we never got.

Let's hope it lives up to its promise in the trailer

I'll add that Gareth Edwards is a better Director than any of the Directors for T3, Salvation, Genisys and Dark Fate

Dude, this is what I'm talking about.

This one better make money if people say it's good. I'm tired of original movies sinking in the box office and then people complaining about unoriginality in Hollywood.

@Fares - I love me a good dystopian sci-fi movie. This looks like it could deliver! I'll be there opening weekend. Great cast and I'm an Edwards fan.

Consider me intrigued. The director, the lead, the setting and the premise all have my attention

I think Denzel Washington is the best actor working. No contest. But his son, honestly… just isn’t any good. Dude has conveyed one emotion on screen so far, and always looks bored to be there. This looks good though, despite him.

@connorblaze - I feel 100% the same, but I have only seen him in Tenet (which I thought he was horrible in). I keep hearing people say how good he is, but I haven't seen it yet. Apparently he was great in Blackkklansman.

@connorblaze - yeah he’s just mediocre. Every character play seems to be half asleep.

@Shivermetimbers - BlacKkKlansman was great and he was very good in the movie as well. Beckett was also an awesome movie imo but it didn't seem to get the best reviews. He may not be the actor his father has shown to be at least not in range but I personally think he's great for certain roles. I feel the same about actors like Keanu in that they need a certain role to thrive. I feel like they both seem to be less expressive in their dialogue and facial expressions. This looks pretty good though so maybe he'll win people over with this one.

Washington just doesn’t have much range as an actor and this plot sounds pedestrian.

We're now just on variations of previous ideas, as anything truly unique is near impossible. But holy poopballs this looks epic! Take my money!

Looks neat (I mean, Greig Fraser is the DP so duh). But I'm having a hard time buying AIs building Asian villages and living quiet, humble lives.
