The Guns Are Out As Roland Battles Jackie Earle Haley's Sayre In Epic THE DARK TOWER Set Photos

If you're a fan of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, you'll love these new photos from the set of the movie! They show off an epic battle between Gunslinger Roland Deschain and the evil Richard Sayre...

Just Jared has shared some seriously cool set photos from The Dark Tower, and if you weren't on board with Idris Elba playing The Gunslinger before, you will be now! Wielding one of his trusty revolvers with the sandalwood grip, the actor was spotted battling it out with Richard Sayre, the character being played by Preacher star Jackie Earle Haley. In the books, he's one of the Low Men or Can-toi.

They're basically humanoid rats who wear masks to disguise that fact; however, they also have oozing red patches upon their foreheads which make them stand out from the crowd (get close enough and you'll see their real selves bursting out from beneath). That's like why Haley's face is covered in dots which will be used as a basis for some sort of CGI transformation a little further down the line.

He's super strong anyway, hence why he can be seen tearing off a car door and throwing it at Roland. These two never directly crossed paths in the books, but this movie is a sequel of sorts to those set in a new world, so it makes sense why they're crossing paths here. Why this fight is happening remains to be seen though, but expect more details to follow over the coming weeks and months.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, The Dark Tower is currently set to be released on February 17th, next year.

The images are copyrighted, so head on over to Just Jared to check them out!

Just waitin' on this version to fail so they can do a faithful adaptation on television.

No disrespect to Idris Elba, but they're not even remotely trying to do the books justice.

@soberchimera - That's because it's not an adaptation; it's a sequel to the books depicting Roland's final journey to the Tower. I would like to see a Game of Thrones style series down the line too, but I think this has a ton of potential to be a worthy follow-up which improves on King's ending, especially if Eddie, Susannah, and Oy still factor into things down the line.

I'm curious about how faithful they're going to be to the series, and how much of the story they want to tell. I assume every studio wants to build a multi-film franchise/universe these days.
