'The Hobbit' To Start Casting This Week!

"What we've done over the years is discover a lot of interesting actors," said Jackson. "So if you start looking and auditioning seriously, it's amazing what incredible talent you'll find out there."

The rumor mill has spat out a few names for Bilbo but one popular one in particular is James McAvoy. To which Jackson states: "Apart from Ian McKellen, we are not really offering any roles to anybody until we've done a casting sweep."

Jackson has gone on record saying that he does not feel any pressure to cast a known actor "(These movies) have never been a star-driven vehicle. The star is (author J.R.R.) Tolkien and the world he created," states Jackson. "We are not under any pressure. We want to find the right people. Casting someone to portray a hobbit is not as easy as you might imagine. [We've] got to find the right people to play them, the right humans to translate these characters."

Agreed Peter. Just make it epic.

As I've already said on a different Hobbit article, I prefer the books to the movies but as long as Daniel Radcliffe isnt in this then I'm looking forward to it!

@Rune: Yer not alone there man! I'd love to be just a part of the crew of such an epic undertaking, let alone being a cast member! But being able to portray one of the Dwarves or even a Hobbit would be sweet! Hell, I'd settle for Unnamed Goblin #46 who gets smashed in the brain by Dwarf #32's hammer in the Battle of Five Armies. That would be sweet.

Can't wait for the Hobbit! Epic Journies through Middle Earth, plzkthx!

Take your time, Peter, do it right.

No one deserves to be handed a role in this movie, save for McKellen. I'd personally rather an unknown than McAvoy.

I think there are 2 perfect hobbit candidates: Jim Sturgess and
Ben Foster.

I'd like to nominate my Uncle Gene for a hobbit role. Dudes feet look like he stepped in a couple of ewoks and never wiped them off...

I think it would be better if they went with unknowns or less known people. That way it would be more character driven. Macavoy would be an interesting choice. I think he could do it.
