According to Variety, Benderspink have hired a new screenwriter for their upcoming comic book adaptation The New West, which is based on the 2005 series written by Jimmy Palmiotti and illustrated by Phil Noto. Ryan Engle, who has previously performed on-set production scriptwriting work for the Liam Neeson action thriller Non-Stop, has signed on to write the screenplay for the sc-fi thriller which will be produced by Len Wiseman and Gareb Shamus. The project was set up by Benderspink earlier this year. Engle has also scripted New Line Cinema's video game adaptation Rampage. The plot logline for The New West is currently under wraps, but below is a description of the comic book series:

Our story begins with a disgraced former Los Angeles Police detective Daniel Wise, who endures a near future deserted hostile LA environment where the Mayor has now been kidnapped and Daniel Wise is the only one who can save him, but can he do it with just a horse and sword?
