I created my account after watching this truly amazing 'breakthrough' movie. I first read most of the reviews others had submitted to see if anyone else was left with the same impressions, only about 10% of the posts gave credit to the hidden story line.
In my opinion the movie's title is just that. A Sucker Punch to the 'supporters' of this genre of films. Supporters meaning, fans of the infamous Adult Film Industry and all of its 'off-shoots'.
The character metaphors are obvious to those who have an affiliation to the porno system, even long time fans who have seen a fair share of these 'adult movies' can see this.
The action sequences are a metaphor for the use of mental projection done by the female character in order to block out the 'actual actions' normally performed. More simply, imagining yourself in another situation to minimize the thoughts of what you're actually doing. (ie. a scene in porno)
The significant male characters in the movie illustrate the attitudes of the men affilated in the production of these type films. The instructor represents the veteran Adult film star whose ship has sailed, but can still offer help the new recruits in training. Everyone from the doorman, the cook, the orderlies and of course the 'black guy' can be easily be associated to the male characters in the porn industry.
The film in my opinion is associating the father figure to the 'mission general' character, who all the female characters, in reality, are without in the situation. His character is stern and knowing, who gives 'the girls' a synopsis of life without sugarcoating the realities.
The difficulties escaping this sub culture is illustrated by the girls being contractually binded to the employer. The map also shows the difficulty getting out of the contract.
The lead female character 'baby' represents the childlike qualities most perverted fans look for in porn these days. 'Barley-legal-looking' girls performing with no experience has an allure all its own, 'the rawness is part of the charm' comment states that.
Also to take it a step further, the sucker punch is Probably because, the financial contributers of this movie, probably have shares of intrests in the Adult film industry, and didn't see this complex storyline forming.
Watch the movie again with some off the things I've written in mind. The comment, 'don't write a check your ASS can't cash', was one of the more blatant attemps at the viewer for understanding the meaning of the story.
The 'black guy' later states 'I won't hurt these girls anymore' shows the remorse that would have to occur by the male porn actors in order to stop destroying these girls young lives.
The end scene shows that even when a female actor wants to quit, without the proper support, the fans, actors they've worked with as well as others will be constant reminders of past mistakes.
