The first trailer for new deep-sea horror flick Underwater is now online, and it promises claustrophobic chills with an impressive cast as Kristen Stewart (Twilight), T.J. Miller (Deadpool), Vincent Cassel (La Haine) and Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist) must attempt to reach the surface after their underwater lab is destroyed when an earthquake unleashes mysterious subterranean creatures.

The footage definitely gives of strong The Abyss vibes... only with far less friendly monsters!

The movie is directed by William Eubank, who helmed indie sci-fi The Signal back in 2014. The screenplay was written by Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad, from a story by Brian Duffield.

Check out the trailer and a poster below, and let us know what you think in the comments. Underwater is set to hit theaters on January 10th, 2020.

If this was a Paramount release, I have no doubt that they would have retrofitted it to be a Cloverfield prequel

@tmp3 - Cloversea... it would sell itself.

@Kleytus - Mostly because the monster in that first film came from the sea, so it seems a lot easier to retrofit than whatever the hell Cloverfield Paradox tried to do with those reshoots to tie it in.

@KingCipher - It was originally "God Particle", but they did some big reshoots to make it a Cloverfield film, before selling it off to Netflix because it was that bad. Really good cast though, Debicki's got a big role coming up in TENƎꓕ and hopefully Gugu Mbatha-Raw gets a big break soon too. If they wanna go for a person of color for Catwoman, she would be great.

@KingCipher - Yeah, she was the best part of Widows imo.

This looks really bad but it's still a huge step up for Henwick from Iron Fist.

Mark is my favorite contributor on here. His stuff is well written and researched...but this isn't a comic book movie thing.

Seems like a remake of Alien crossed with the Abyss

WB should have just bought this and called it a day.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - *Paramount. Looks more like a Cloverfield prequel than a Trench film.
