Apparently Andrew Garfield Had Discussions About Staying On As SPIDER-MAN

In the Daily Beast's report on the Marvel/Sony Spider-Man deal, they mention that the man who played Peter Parker in both Amazing Spider-Man movies might have had the chance to reprise the role for Marvel. Did he turn it down? More past the jump...

We now know that Peter Parker (at least, we assume it'll be Peter Parker!) will be recast for Marvel's take on Spider-Man, but it seems that wasn't always going to be the case. According to The Daily Beast, Andrew Garfield did have discussions about staying on as the character, but ultimately "it didn't make sense" to do so because Marvel are looking for a younger, high school age Spidey ('cos we haven't seen that before apparently). Was it actually Garfield's decision not to reprise the role? That's how it's being spun by certain other outlets, but there's no real indication of that  in the original report. Plus, it's hard to imagine Garfield passing up the opportunity to play Spider-Man again alongside Marvel's team of Avengers.

But who knows -- maybe he just got fed up with Sony keeping him in limbo, or was disheartened by the reaction to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Whatever the situation, Garfield is out, and we're getting a new "much younger" Spider-Man whether we like it or not. Though I'm obviously as happy as everyone else that we're finally getting a Marvel take on the Wall Crawler, I am a tad disappointed that Garfield won't be continuing to play him as he was undoubtedly the highlight of two pretty disappointing films. What do you guys think?
