SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Nearly Included A Cameo From Another Marvel Comics Superhero

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse featured a lot of cameos from spider-themed heroes but it's now been revealed that another Marvel character - who resides in the MCU - very nearly made an appearance...

Avengers: Infinity War featured the first big screen meeting of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange but the Sorcerer Supreme was actually supposed to cross paths with another version of the wall-crawler in this month's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

According to producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, an early draft of the movie featured a surprise cameo from an animated version of Stephen Strange. "The first draft ended with [Strange]," Lord confirmed before Miller chimed in with, "Oh, that's right!"

"It ended with him saying, 'Okay, I have some things to tell you,'" Lord continued. "It was the first draft, like three years ago. It ended with Doctor Strange. Literally, the last frame was Doctor Strange, going, 'Hello.'"

The filmmakers didn't elaborate on why these plans were changed but Sony has toyed with the idea of Doctor Strange before; remember in Spider-Man 2 when J. Jonah Jameson referenced the hero? Regardless, with Marvel Studios owning the rights to Strange and using him in the MCU, it's easy enough to see why they wouldn't want another version showing up here.

Lord and Miller wanting to use him adds up, though, especially given the Multiverse nature of Into the Spider-Verse. Are you disappointed that this cameo didn't end up happening?

That's interesting... I wonder if this indicates that Sony and Marvel have other deals regarding properties that we are unaware of...

@Dacci - They probably do. I remember they tried to get Avengers Tower into The Amazing Spider-man. The only reason they didn't was because of timing issues.
