SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Marisa Tomei Open To May Parker Return: "There Are More Avenues To Explore"

Marisa Tomei has previously said that she was pitched a slightly different arc for May Parker when she initially signed on to play the character in Captain America: Civil War, and the Academy Award-winner has now revealed that she'd be open to reprising the role at some point.

Spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home follow.

Of course, Peter Parker's beloved Aunt was killed-off in No Way Home after an encounter with The Green Goblin, but the introduction of the Multiverse means Tomei could still play a May Variant.

“Oh yes, there is a Multiverse," responded Tomei when asked about May's demise and possible return by Jimmy Fallon. "That was part of the secrecy originally, now a lot of people know. But the thing was, if anyone asked me about it, I don’t understand the Multiverse myself. Our wonderful director, Jon, and I’m like ‘And so, where am I now? Ok, well, can you explain it to me one more time?’"

"I would love to come back and be a part of that," she continued. "There’s history there, too. May Parker hooks up with Ant-Man. Well, I mean, she’s a standalone character, of course, but there are more avenues to explore."

May was basically subbed-in for Peter Uncle Ben in the recent threequel, laying the "with great power comes great responsibility" speech on her nephew right before she passed. For this reason, bringing the character back in any capacity might not sit very well with fans. That said, Sony Pictures was reportedly considering an Aunt May solo movie at one point, so you never know!

I feel like she was a bit underused. Great actress, should have had more screentime, especially in FFH.

I think what they did with her was great and that there’s nothing more to add to it. Just my opinions

As people are saying, she was underused in the role. All things considered being made the new uncle Ben was really the best they did with this character.

However, that trigger was pulled. And a multiversal return just comes with the problem of too much from the multiverse, something we're already starting to deal with.

She'll get her own movie knowing Sony.

@Feralwookiee - Pretty sure they already toyed around with this idea alerady

@Himura - Probably. Sony will spin off ANYTHING.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they had a spinoff starring Robbie Robertson's 3rd cousin.

No.
She should blame Jon Watts and Sony for completely wasting her talent for 4 and a half movies, reducing her to a literal MILF joke, but now she is dead, and her death actually meant something.

Also, Sony, no crazy ideas about giving her her own movie on your little horny shared universe

One of the things I did not like about the film was that they offed her for a cheap emotional hook. One of the reasons I think the film is good but not great.

Her last moments with Peter were actually really great.

I didn’t for the rest of her characterization but that scene was excellent.

Thought they dropped the ball with her in Homecoming and Far From Home, but she was pretty good in No Way Home.

She was a nice aunt May IMO. The part in Homecoming when she helped Peter with the dance was so good, relatable.

But no, her sendoff was perfect.

@Fogs - She taking Ben's role? fresh and interesting take, Peter Parker basically being raised by a single mom? GREAT take, but this also makes you realize they never explored the potential these concepts had.
She is a great actress, and we know these movies needed more personal and down to earth moments (like the one you just described), but they got Marisa Tomei, and reduced a potential great character to "look, she is hot, get is, is funny because she is Aunt May and she is hot, get it, why arent you laughing!?", and they played that joke (which only worked on Civil War, and it was because of the novelty, and RDJ) for four straight movies, and then they just fridged her.

@TheHumanSpider2 - yeah, it was novel. And carried her character nicely to me. So what if she was pretty and it was treated lightly? I can't see the problem.

I'd rather have the classic origin? Sure. But she had a nice arc imo.

I would love her to return in key flashbacks during Peter's growth as an adult. Maybe a flashback to Iron Man 2 the night Tony saved him or a flashback to when Ben died and so on. She is now too integral to Peter's character development to not be included in flashbacks
