A brand new behind-the-scenes photo from Spider-Man 4 pre-production offers our first-ever look at The Vulture wings John Malkovich was set to don as Adrian Toomes...and they're pretty feirce looking!

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 was supposed to be released in theaters on May 5, 2011, and the movie got pretty far into pre-production before the decision was made to reboot the franchise. John Malkovich had been cast as The Vulture, while we recently learned that Angelina Jolie was eyed to play his daughter, Vulturess.

She would have suited up as that newly created villain after her father died in battle against the web-slinger, with Anne Hathaway expected to take on the role of Black Cat.

It's a shame the movie didn't happen, but The Vulture would eventually make his live-action debut in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming played by Michael Keaton. He was a force to be reckoned with, but a newly revealed photo from behind the scenes of Spider-Man 4 shows that Malkovich's version also would have been no joke.

Shared by Marvel and DC Comics writer and artist Ken Penders, the image reveals that The Vulture's wings would have had the potential to tear poor Spidey to shreds!

We'd love to see what the full costume looks like and have to believe there's someone else out there with images of the suit and access to concept art which has never seen the light of day. Other plans for the movie called for cameo appearances from Mysterio and Stilt-Man, along with Dylan Barker's long-awaited transformation into The Lizard as Dr. Curt Connors.

Raimi returned to the comic book movie genre earlier this year for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but made it clear to the press that he's not desperate to helm Spider-Man 4 anytime soon.

Take a closer look at The Vulture's wings below.

@hazapez - was thinking the same thing not so long ago. My guess is they just take everything apart again, especially full sets

First glance, I though that was James Brown as the Vulture. I think I'd be alright with that. A funky Vulture

Looks way more cool/creative than the helicopter wings/pilot suit we ended up with

@Matchesz - Literal bird wings is a more creative take than the entire apparatus we got?

The actor's name was Dylan Baker, not Barker, that played Dr. Connors. You can watch him in Inside Man with Stanley Tucci (Captain America The First Avenger) and David Tennant (Dr.Who)

Inside Man is on Netflix.

Crazy that these studios meddle with scripts and characters and the director’s process on these movies and then if it tanks, the studio fires the actor and director and blame them for the poor performance at the box office. It’s so dumb

Reminds me of the Vulture look from the Web of Shadows game. This with Malkovitch would have been incredible, although I'm a big fan of how they actually made Keatons version a vulture in the way that he operated.

Raimi's Vulture would have been perfection. Here's a look at a concept sculpt that's been colored.

Great casting (INCREDIBLE actor), and the wings look way better (and more comic book accurate, of course) than what they put Michael Keaton in for Homecoming. Would have loved to have seen this.

"but made it clear to the press that he's not desperate to helm Spider-Man 4 anytime soon."

Actually, if memory serves, both Raimi and Maguire have both said that they're 100% game to do a Spider-Man 4 if the opportunity ever presented itself.
